From 2am on Showtime. Donaire-Marquez is first up followed by the main event. Read earlier this week that Donaire was struggling with the weight (but he weighed in fine) and the man himself said he's lacking motivation for this fight. He seems quite pissed off at Top Rank for not getting him the big fights. In other slightly related news, Eric Morel has pulled out of a fight with Fernando Montiel. Morel was prignally offered the Donaire fight for tonight but he turned it down thinking he'd get more for the Montiel fight. The Montiel fight went to purse bids and his cut of the purse came out at $20,500. If he'd accepted the offer for the Donaire fight he'd have got $115,000 atsch. Donaire doesn't look well at this weight. He reminds me of Cotto at Light Welter although Donaire is having life and death battles. His skin in the press workout was similar in the fact he looked drawn and pale (even for a Filipino). I'd expect him to get past tonight's challenge and really hope the lad gets the fights he deserves. He's a really genuine nice guy from what i seen and has skills to match.
I agree about this weight for Donaire, it's been an almighty struggle for a while now, but like you said he should have enough to win again tonight. Genuine nice guy too, and speaks great English which i didn't realise.... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoY1ui1pZrg&feature=fvst[/ame]
Donaire is a top lad. He moved to the US as a kid. He's moving up to bantam after this :happy. Some real quality fights to be made there.
Yeah agreed. I noticed his last display got a bit sluggish if i remember correctly. When you lack motivation and also not feeling great at weight you leave yourself at risk. I hope he can just do the business tonight. cheers for posting the video :good love watching smitty. very educational. Be good post for the training forum. Just watching him in this video says to me there's been a war to get down to 114lbs. plus i noticed he's come in half a pound under the limit...that sometimes can mean a fighters overcooked his weight loss and makes things even worse..will be interesting viewing :think
I think i remember reading that he used to be bullied when he came to U.S and his dad made him box to defend himself...now he's one of top fighter's in world today.
