All very good responses so thanks a lot.

Fighting him again today. Nervous but I'll let you know how I get on.

Much, much better spar today. He's real slippery fast so and so and I'm not allowed to use power to counteract it (I'm bigger) but it was much better today.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

meh I always though using power and strength to combat speed was a viable tactic. Ricky Hatton did it.

Although I'm pretty short so I guess it doesn't look as bad from the outside.

Ricky hatton was fast! look at him against paulie, Ricky was amazing at working the body and thats how he took the speed out of who he was fighting.

How do you "lose" sparring? Your art is growing so you win.

Timing is what you use to negate speed. Unfortunately it takes time and experience to get good at, but in the meantime use good defense and hit hard when he lets his hands go.

Its more good footwork that ****s me up. I'm pretty good at slipping punches and getting inside, but guys who pivot off in time, particularly southpaws, really ruin my day.

sparring is about learning and about trying new moves and perfecting when you spar you dont use your ego cuzz if its a gym war nobodys learning nothing you juss get to show your girlfriends shiners and battle scars-------------------The only time you can win or lose in sparring is if your coach lets you spar someone exactlee or close to your level or someone above it(example if you have ten fights and the person your coach brings has 15) ------if your coach tells you to treat that spar with a boxer on your level or above it as a match and he's keeping score of points that is the time when you can win or lose in sparring-------:thumbsup

jof keep your head up im a amature boxer and whenever my coach brings a pro for me to spar and ses treat it like a match and throw everything and da kitchen sink at him and i lose in sparring horible cuzz im goin a hundred percent and the seasoned pro's prolly goin like 5 or ten percent maybe less but i can tell the pros goin easy on me and playen around or atleast holding back alot ----and i lose the spar i learn way more from that spar then sparing another amature boxer at the gym i gotta admit after getting tore up my heads down but the thing about me whenever i lose like dat i get motivated to work 3 times harder:thumbsup

I usually end up on the losing stick cos i can say that im gunshy. Have trouble getting in and dont throw the right hand enough. That all changed today.
Was sparring this new guy and right from the get-go he jumped on me. I thought he was going to kill me. After the third bum-rush i got used to it and at that point my trainer told him to take it easy. A few seconds later he ran out of gas  So i just kept jabbing away and blocking all the threw. He had no sense of distance and all he could do was bum-rush, which he was too tired to do. Threw a few rights and now i feel real good :yep

it can be a bit depressing losing a spar badly. My coach usually turns on me if i dont do well.

Had the best training session ever today. At the time when im usually tired and can barely move i was full off energy. Hands were fast, light on my feet. Felt really good. Only reason i stopped ( 45 min after the actual training session) was cos i got hungry.
Anyhow, usually i lose the spars. I do better each time but i just suck. Now today, a dude whose the same height and age as me but 10+ something punds llighter god knocked DOWN! I have the weight advantage and blah blah blah but i knocked him down with a perfect jab. He jumped in, threw a jab at his chest and down he went. His face was priceless!
