Exactly! Young could resist the urge to punch-that inability is what always held Byrd back from maturing as a pro, Dude. That's called "mental fortitude". If that were Young against Vitali, he'd have just dodged, countered once a round, maybe half a time. He wouldn't have gotten the decision. But we'd have all known he should have. That's what makes a champion.
:dealbang on post. this is why jimmy's young "actual" record isn't really discussed. what matters isn't winning, it's making the other guy look bad. jimmy was a MASTER at that. belts, records...accomplishments? These are for chumps
Byrd would have gotten flattened by George Foreman..he didn't have the phantom-like defensive abilities that Young possesed. Ike Ibeabuchi would have been so flustered and flummoxed by Young that would have tried to **** one of the Round Card Girls or even the ring announcer after the decision was read. Young would have beaten him with the same dispatch that he handled Foreman and Lyle with. Ike's head would have exploded from frustration..he may have even gotten disqualified for trying to use his stool to clobber Young with. Wlad Klitschko may have been This content is protected This content is protected ...able to win a decision over Young, but This content is protected would he have poleaxed him like he did Byrd. Byrd had fast hands and that southpaw style, but nothing approaching the defensive wizardry that Young possesed, and his chin was decidedly inferior to Young's.
THAT'S NOT FAIR AT ALL, RED! ...You and I both know Ike would've tried to **** one of those Round Card Girls, regardless.
This is the Young who lost to Chuck Gardner? I see two possible scenarios here, Louis gets dsq'd for hitting Young while Young is out of the ring,or Young gets dsq'd for being out ,instead of in the ring. If a fat, disinterested ,untrained, near 34 year old Ali could make Young put his body through the ropes in evasive action, Joe Louis should be able to make him actually jump out of the ring ,similar to those bulls who jump the barrier to avoid the Matador.
That doesn't matter. I'm talking about individual fights. If you have watched those fights which you haven't you wouldn't be saying that.
Louis by late ko anywhere from the 10th onwards, but I wouldnt be surprised if he was behind on points when he stopped Young.
