Providnikov had a pretty much grenade proof chin, not as low class as some of the other guys mentioned but that man could eat sledgehammer blows for breakfast and go back for a second helping
Paul Gallen got by on his fitness and toughness from Rugby League he took some bombs from Mark Hunt but managed to out work him then he took 10 rounds of punishment from Justis Huni. Pretty impressive for a guy who made his boxing debut in his mid 30’s
Eh, he’s got excellent right hand timing/accuracy too. He needs better stamina, seems to lack heart, and seemingly forgets about throwing jabs most of the time (despite his jab actually looking pretty nice when he throw the rare one). But his right? That thing is like a laser. It’s his one offensive weapon.
But isn't that precisely the point? If a fighter can come in with a great chin and still not get to that high a level then multiple other things are clearly wrong with them... An iron chinned fighter with decent power will walk through punches and get stoppages until they get quite near the top of the tree (Joyce, for example). An iron chinned fighter with mediocre power, crap stamina and mediocre workrate on the other hand... Isn't going to get stoppages against anyone good and isn't going to get decisions either... That's your classic gatekeeper with a great chin and not much more (Wach is a good example).
eh, more glass jawed fighters have reached high places than guys with chins but nothing else. I mean, there are literally TWO consensus ATG heavyweights who many call glass jawed. Heck, both of them are often on top 10 lists. One of them even beat two ATG chins (both attached to actually good boxers).
Not at all. It's disparaging to refer to iron-jawed fighters or those who reside between my tier (iron-jawed) and the any of the tiers above average punch resistance as ''low class'' We're the normal ones not glass-jawed freaks and weaklings who have been cursed with below average punch resistance, all of whom will get brutally KO'd when they face punchers Punch resistance is to combat sports what dough is to making bread
New Zealand fighter Sean Sullivan. I think that is his name. He had amazing chin. Danny green hit this guy a million time on chin and he didn't fall
Yep Green beat him from pillar to post and couldn’t stop him. Mundine managed to stop him in 10th round of their rematch but in their first fight he gave Mundine hell but lost a decision. I am pretty sure he fought a prime Shannon Taylor who was a big puncher and he couldn’t stop him either.
