It sucks that the IBF didnt follow their own rules. It says the new champion has 3 months to make an optional title defense after winning the title.

Well... the 3 months period was over on july 3rd. Now he's suppose to fight his mandatory challenger, Lucian Bute.

But Sauerland pulled another of his tricks.

Are you serious, Maxime? They broke their rules? Well, if so, it's an "absolute disgrace" as the saying goes. I know this is pro boxing, but COME ON!:patsch How the hell can we expect boxing to ever be more than a side-show when stuff like this is being pulled?

A 3 months period? It is a 6 months period.

sorry, where did you see 6 months? I couldn't find it...

What I saw in the rules:

"Optional Defenses

In the interim periods, the Champion may enter
into any contest with any contender rated in the top
fifteen (15) boxers [
This content is protected
] in his weight class as set forth in
the ratings of the IBF/USBA subject to the approval of
the Championships Chairman and the President.

and shall be subject to the approval of the
Championships Chairman and the President.

Once this initial mandatory defense obligation has
been satisfied, the Champion shall defend his
championship within intervals of no more than nine
(9) months against the leading available contender
in his weight class as designated by the

Championships Chairman."

The mandatory was to be in September, right? So Berrio should have fought Haussler sometimes this month...right? What is going on here?

Yeah I see your point now.

Berrio/Haussler should have fougth in june 23 in Zwickau but it was postpone due to contractual differences (Berrrio would need more time to prepare) and I guess that IBF Chairman and President gave Sauerland more time.

The mandatory was due to be in september (3rd)- Bute won his eliminator june 15 (could the mandatory due date be dec 15 instead of sept 3?)

Good news for Bute fans in Canada! His next fight, including any Title fight will definitely NOT be fought in Romania...couldn't gather enough cash.

I do! He needs to put Berrio out of his head for the moment and get his next fight set up. Hopefully, in or around the same time as Berrio's defence. I mentioned Mundine before, but as Faetter pointed out, he's a WBA man so it's unlikely he'll want the fight. I suppose that leaves Bute with Froch and Inkin although apparently Froch is not too keen on the fight.

Either way, he needs another fight that'll take him to that next level. That's why I think Beyer is the man for him, unless of course he could actually get a fight with either Mundine, Froch, Inkin or dare I say it, Lacy.

Inkin is the most realistic option, although my preference would be:

1. Mundine
2. Froch/Inkin
3. Lacy/ Andrade

Lacy and maybe even Andrade are probably better than Froch/Inkin, though it's hard to tell; still, Froch/Inkin appear more dangerous at this stage. What do you think?

Emmm, maybe...though I doubt it. He might lose against both though.

:nono You are wrong there, buddy!

Lacy is recovering after an operation. He will need a tune up-fight before he can face Bute. Kessler made Andrade look bad, and eventhough Bute imo will win, it will still be a tough fight for him.

Perhaps the time has come for a fight against Mundine? But he needs to fight Froch and Inkin sooner or later anyway, so why not right away - they all need to be tested to see who can challenge Kessler...

That's why I'd pick Inkin...

Because Froch is a great puncher, he gets to be a bit overrated (especially by the british fans, who thinks he at the moment can beat calzaghe:)). Inkin beat Froch as an amateur, and he might be underrated..

But time will tell...

You are right about all the greatness talk and still completely wrong about the fact that he's nothing special.
