Ortiz and Liston are both of similar size and stature, Liston most likely had more physical ability but Ortiz maybe more the skilled technician. Prime for Prime...does Liston show Ortiz any respect in there or does he try and blast him out? To this point they both have questionable resumes, but are both known as the boogeyman of their era.
Ortiz would be a big, modern day heavyweight southpaw with KO power. But I have to favor Liston here. It's just the southpaw factor and in Liston's time, southpaw's were rare. If Ortiz was Orthodox then I'd definitely favor Liston.
This forum is an excellent example of why crack is not good for you. Luis 'big bad boogeyman' Ortiz beats any heavyweight in history not named Deontay Wilder or Dustin 'earthworm' Nichols.
There are lots of good reasons for favoring Liston. All time great jab, 84 inch reach, excellent counter right, and proven all time great status…. But…. I wouldn’t dismiss Ortiz as having no chance. He had deadly power and a reasonably good chin. And yes unfortunately I have to mention that he’s 6’4” 240 lbs. I’m also not sure how many south paws Liston has fought in his career. There was Gerard Zech but I don’t think he was very good. If someone were to ask me the question “ who has Ortiz beaten ?” I would very honestly answer “ mostly garbage. “ but I think the chin, power, size and southpaw stance are all valid and apparent factors…
Liston breaks him down for a late KO or very well May one-shot him early ala Wilder. He might not be quite as powerful as Wilder (which is saying something) but he still has more than enough power to get the job done, and is infinitely more skilled than Wilder so he may very well find that punch earlier.
I'm going with my man Ortiz. Liston quit and lost in one round against the first and only opponent to pose serious adversity to him (other than fringe man Leotis). He never fought a decent southpaw or guy Ortiz's size anyway.
An ATG with a ramrod jab (always wanted to type that lol) PLUS that right hand & tremendous abilities, vs a guy that hasn't shown anywhere near the level that Liston was on. Liston would train and plan accordingly & KO Ortiz without too much of a problem.
Fight nearly happened when Ortiz was an amateur. I think Liston may be a little too old at this point to beat Ortiz. however I've heard Wilder is lining him up for a fight. Deontay claims Liston presents him with a chance to achieve his long-term career dream of having a body on his record.
You sound a little upset. Who exactly are you referring to? Williams? The guy couldn't carry Ortiz's jockstrap.
