This is pretty cool. The cameras staying on the commentators between rounds and bouts allows for a look into their candid discussions. (I guess they don't realize the audio/video feed is still running for those watching online)

Quiñones was asking someone on the crew if their battery was running, because "the little red light is blinking and it wasn't before". He then chugs half a bottle of water and says to Adams, "that was a great fight". Adams and Shields agree enthusiastically - and naturally, not thinking they're on camera. Adams says that this is the kind of experience that you hope a young boxer can benefit from if they have a good teacher, not just trainer, in their corner.

 

Craig McEwan vs. Dashon Johnson, 6 rounds @ super middleweight

 

This is McEwan's sixth outing since his TKO loss to Peter Quillin two years ago, and his third since a more recent SD loss in the Prizefighter tourney. It is his first time competing in the USA since he fought Andy Lee.

 

Round 1

McEwan is flitting around Johnson, bow-legged, throwing multitudes of soft right jabs at Johnson's head. Johnson throws a right hand lead feint and McEwan reacts to it by sitting his butt down low and thrust out behind him - and loses his footing and plunks down on his ass. A no-touch knockdown! (not really; correctly ruled a slip) McEwan is up and quadrupling his light jab into the crest of Johnson's head. Left uppercut dashing in by McEwan, blocked on the forearms. Johnson is approaching in a Philly shell but not throwing anything, just a few jab and right feints.

Round 2

McEwan is circling right and fluttering out the right jab, swirling the left hand out in a backward arc and then cutting forward and up into Johnson's body, resulting in McEwan leaning down on Johnson in a clinch. Johnson is walking forward, disrespecting McEwan's pop, marching him to the ropes without even throwing a punch, left arm crossed over his belly and right glove up by his face. Johnson is bumping into McEwan, tied up after walking through his jabs.

Round 3

McEwan is popping the right jab into Johnson's mouth and collapsing in, hugging Johnson close with arms pinned at his sides. McEwan bouncing on his toes moving right, popping the jab. Johnson is showing a left jab as he turns and watches. Right hand to the body by Johnson as McEwan is pushing up on the balls of his feet and trotting laterally. McEwan nearly trips up as his gait is sent askew, his own legs tangling each other. Johnson keeps firing straight into his midsection, bending forward with jabs and rights. McEwan is down!! The commentators all feel it should've been ruled a slip but the referee is counting in McEwan's face. There were landed body shots that caused him to lose his balance. :conf

Round 4

McEwan is dropping the right jab toward Johnson's belt line but getting blocked on the left arm corded tightly around Johnson's waist. Jabs up top are picked off by Johnson's right palm. Big right hand by Johnson snaps McEwan's head back and makes him hold. Johnson is timing the diving jab and grab attempts of McEwan with 1-2s and hooks around the side of the head.

Round 5

McEwan is stumbling around Johnson, tossing right jabs and wide lefts from outside, up and down, all blocked. Jabs and crosses into the face by Johnson, and upper-hooks to the body when McEwan crowds in and leans down on him. Right hand between the eyes by Johnson. McEwan is looking tired and desperate to hold.

Holy ****. Adams just said that as of December 3rd - yesterday - McEwan had no scheduled opponent.

Dashon Johnson took it on under 24 hours' notice and is bossing this. :shock:


...against someone who once fought at world class level.

He is so far up, in fact, that McEwan needs to revenge himself and score a knockdown just to preserve a draw on my card. Two at least (or a big turnaround stoppage) to get the W.

 

Round 6

McEwan is lunging in with both hands and springing up and down on the outside after missing with loose, sloppy, arm-weary lefts and rights. Johnson is tucking his chin, rolling in with spine arched, tossing straight rights and left hooks into McEwan's body and further contributing to his depletion of energy. McEwan is very badly gassed, swinging wildly with right hooks and looping lefts and nearly spinning himself off his feet as he misses while Johnson threads the needle with jabs and rights while vaulting in with his back bent.
