Macklin - Geale bookies seem to be making Geale favourite?

    Afternoon Len,

As always we'll have to agree to dissagree on this one.
Macklin is a decent fighter, but he's come up short everytime he's stepped up, and Murrays performance against Martinez eclipse's any of Macklins fights at that level.
If you believe that Macklin beat Sturm, then you'd have to say that Murray should also have gotten the nod.

I would have Geale as a big favourite, is a level above Macklin who always fails at world level. Barker just edged Geale, and Barker was far better than Macklin

Hi there Shakes - long time no see! :p

At least you - (while being completely wrong, obviously ;)) - can make a sensible and civililed argument of your case.

So anyway, how do you think the fight will actually pan out on the night between Mack and Dan? Love to hear your breakdown.

Well dont stop there my man - explain to us just exactly how your "big favourite" Geale is going to hammer poor Mack?

Because he has better work rate, better shot selection and can take a punch better, just a much better fighter than Macklin. Hence why Geale has won multiple world title fights and Macklin has lost everyone

Be interesting to see what you have to say AFTER the fight, Moog.

    Better work rate?
You mean he rushes at his opponent flailing his arms like a demented washerwoman? Are you aware Macklin threw 90-100 punches per round vresus Sturm - proper ones too. A fit Sturm was cut over the eye, had a nasty mouth injury and his sides were beaten red raw after 12 rounds of Macklin. After flapper Geale a very unfit Felix was good to go after a quick shower!

    Can take a punch better?
Geale has been hurt and floored multiple times by non-punchers and has been incredibly lucky to have faced not one decent puncher ever. (Sturm doesnt count cos he was so unmotivated and out of shape)

Who says Sturm don't count you? Unfit, nonsense, Geale was better than him on the night, something Macklin hasn't been in all of his is it 4 attempts at the world title. If he aint careful he will have a world record for most failed attempts at trying to win a world title. Just watch Geale will beat him

Have you ever thought about the idea that Geale beat Sylvester for the title and later on should have lost it to Sturm, who won the fight on most peoples cards.
And that Macklin should have won the Sturm fight but got robbed himself and fought the likes of Martinez and Golovkin in his other 2 attempts.
It's pretty safe to say Macklin fought the 3 best MW's out there, and should have won the fight with the lesser of the 3, while Geale should have lost against that same guy and fought a couple of lesser beltholders wich he beat most of.

Boxing history is quite a lot different when you look deeper into it.
Question is, would you have favored Macklin if he had gotten his win against Sturm and lost the unification against Maravilla, and Geale had gotten the loss and went on his way beating the same guys and losing to barker later on? :blood

Actually, hnh, I am. Or at least very hopeful anyway.
A geale win cant be ruled out of course. Geale has a much better defence than the "defensively challenged" Matt.

Mack has been one of the unluckiest under-achievers in a long while. Went to Germany, beat Sturm and got robbed. No shame in losing to Sergio and GGG.

Geale on the other hand has massively overachieved IMO. In key fights he has been very lucky in terms of the opponents and their styles.
Geale thrives against stiff upright non-punching "conventional" boxers. Guys who like to dictate the pace with a jab..then another jab..then ....etc etc
Sylvester, Sturm, Barker all fit the bill. He was able to rattle these guys with his high output and great engine. (Had Sturm been in top form he would have hosed Geale, but anyway!)

Macklin hits hard with both hands - much harder than "flapper" Geale. Im not at all sure how Geale copes when he is the one under pressure. I am hoping that Mack will "out-Geale Geale" if you get my drift.

Obviously I have some concerns. Matts defence is poor, and his pacing has let him down in the past. Geale is deceptively slippery.

Hopefully it is a case of 4th time lucky for Matt. He deserves it.
Remember Steve Collins failed against 3 top level guys in his day (Sumbu Kalambay, Reggie Johnson, Mike McCallum) befofe he got his breakthrough late in his career when many had given up on him too. :thumbsup

Cheers Len. Yes, I really hope Matt can do it. Genuine, pleasant bloke who has more than paid his dues in many grinding hard fights. I'm amazed that he doesn't seem shopworn.

Well he has some hard miles on the clock alright. So indeed wear-and-tear has to be a worry. But he fights so infrequently that he gives his body maximum chance to recover.

In fact he fights so infrequently that it may cost him in terms of sharpness. Over, say, the last 3-4-5 years Geale has clocked up a lot more rounds - so he will be sharp and match fit.
