Joe G is a very good trainer who done excellent for Maklin and imo he'd do well to remember that because hes had that many trainers he might find he'll need Joe agai some day!
I've never really been one to stick up for Gallagher but I feel Macklin is a little off the mark here. Ok if he wanted to leave Gallagher he's well within his rights (Hell he's done it enough times to enough trainers/promoters) but I dont see the need for the comments. I know they weren't the worst comments but they were still/ needless nonetheless. Macklin is Boxings Carlos Tevez IMO. ****ing mercenary.
Think. People are getting a little over excited here. It wouldn't be the first time Macklin was misquoted or his comments taken out of context. Him and Joe are close, and I doubt he means him any disrespect! Joe knows the Craic with Matt and let's be honest, it wouldn't benefit either of them if Gallagher trained him for this. It's his biggest fight and Macklin is going to need alot of attention and world class sparring! A man who holds down a day job and has a long list of other fighters to train is going to find that an overwhelming task. Too many romantics on here who love the fighter trainer relationship to last forever! I agree, I like it myself. Was gutted when Hatton left Graham etc, but imagine where Khan would be if he never left Harrison. He wouldn't get the sparring he does now If he trained in Bolton! Macklin is making the most of his career and training with whoever he wants. It's a short career, Matts had a lot of bad luck and he owes nobody anything IMO
So how is Joe or any other trainer ment to gain the experience of fighting for a world title if the fighter ****s off to what they think is a better place to train? Loyalty is lacking in a big way here imo because imo Joe is a very good coach,The sparring would come to Bolton by paying for it SIMPLES!
Whole post is quality and couldnt agree more with the 1st bit. And for the record, I thought Sturm won, and that Murray was at least as impressive v Sturm, who's on the slide quite obviously. Martinez will want to make a statement after a poorish performance v Barker, and I think Macklins gone by the 5th.
Joe's a very good coach alright he's not the best technical coach out there but give him time to learn his trade, as for the conditioner side he's up there with the best in Britain, Ive told Joe many times before dont have the Twat back again :nono
McGirt is like a celebrity trainer, I never liked him. Malignaggi gave quite a revealing interview about him once. He always seems to want to take te credit for the wins but will never exept criticism for a defeat!!!
Agreed Billy, Though Macklin wasn't with Joe for long so I wouldn't be too hard on him for the loyalty thing. Thought he could have been a lot more professional with his comments about Joe though and he has done him an injustice. Look at Enzo Calzaghe, how many big fights did he have (Handbags at dawn with Salems trainer aside)? The most important aspect for me with a trainer, is that he knows his own fighter.
Birmingham-born Irishman :conf I'm born in London by Irish parents, that makes me English of Irish descent, same as Macklin! :blah
