WBA Interim Super Lightweight Champion Marcos Maidana is taking the final stops to defend his crown next August 28 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he will take on former World Champion Demarcus Corley at the Luna Park Studium. Maidana has been at training camp for the last nine weeks in the province of Córdoba and had four different sparring partners, among them WBO #2 Cesar Cuenca.

“It’s been a great camp, so I am ready for the challenge. I respect Corley as he is a experienced and talented fighter. One of those who you cannot understimate nor make any mistakes. So I’m 100% focused on this fight,” Maidana said.
“Corley said it would be a war between Argentina and United States, so I prepared myself just for that, a war,” he added.
However, even if Maidana’s mind is focused on Corley at the moment he could not help getting annoyed after reading Freddie Roach’s comments on the web, where he said Amir Khan would easily beat Maidana, Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander on the same night.

“I think these people are nothing but hypocrites. It’s like they have one speech for the cameras and another one for the promoters. Everybody knows that Khan runned scared from me for the last year and they only go for opponents that cannot punch or lighter fighters. But when the have a camera or a mic in front of them, they shout that they would face me next,” Maidana commented.

“I say to Roach and Khan, stop lying to the boxing fans. I have no problem by going to England and knocking him out to bring home the other portion of the WBA title, which belong to me,” he concluded.

Maidana is right but at the time he's being a bit of a fool.

If he wants Khan so much and is saying this then the guy CAN ENFORCE the fight any day of the week. He just needs to pick up the phone and call the WBA, but he's not. Hmm I wonder why :think

People talk about how Khan is still dodging him well if you're happy with fighting guy like Chop SHOT Corley when you could be enforcing your mandatory it does make you wonder.

To be fair lads, Maidana isn't the champion.

The only reason anyone would blow their gasket about Maidana fighting Chop-Chop is because Maidana is so co-joined with Khan, so it becomes a "whats good for the goose is good for the gander" situation. But in reality a challenger, whose already proved himself at a certain world level (beating Ortiz, beating Cayo and giving a good losing display against Kotelnik) doesn't need to be fighting high calibre fighters every fight. He just needs to maintain his position in the pecking order.

The champions are the ones who need to pull their thumbs out. No dig at Khan btw; if he doesn't fight Maidana next, I'll take Victor Ortiz as the opponent instead.:D

Fair enough but remember when Casamayor was being mentioned as a possible July 31st opponent as a 'stay busy' fight for Khan? I'm sure you were around to witness people's impressions.

All I'm saying is, if one person should get criticised for something then the other should be aswell if he's doing the same thing. Sadly, it's just not like that.

Khan just tweeted that he is looking to fight Maindana in December if Goldenboy sort their **** out then facing the winner of Alexander v Bradley afterwards. Just repeating his words, don't shoot the messanger!

Yeah, but that falls into the exact challenger/champion thing I'm talking about.

Kotelnik had a good display against Alexander last time, and he has solidified himself a "good" challenger. But if he fought Chop-Chop next, would anyone really kick up much of a fuss?

    No they wouldn't.

Its different if your a champion though. Plus Khan already had his ****-easy fight against Salita, and then his perfect style match-up against Paulie. Time for a bit of risk - Maidana or Ortiz.:hey

Maidana looks on to me, if you can believe the words coming from Khans camp.

And wouldn't that sort out a lot of the **** that is going on this forum?

    Damn right it would.

Khan v Maidana takes place, and none of the haters or huggers have anything to complain about.

Maidana needs to stop ducking and running and push his position as Khans mando...his fate is in his hands.

****PS: Corley is a **** opponent
