The fact that Malignaggi is considered the no.1 contender shows just how overrated he is. And I don't want hear about Paulie being the no.1 contender. Witter was the no.1 contender for a while and Hatton said he was a boring fighter with no fanbase(And what the hell do you consider Paulie?). When Mayweather and Cotto were at 140, they were also no.1 contenders that Hatton wanted no parts of. Hatton only cares about fighting the no.1 contender when the no.1 contender is a guy who he beat the crap out of.

Malignaggi beat a bonified paper champ to win his title. He then went out and barely beat borderline b level fighter Ngoudjo and barely beat c level fighter N'Dou in a rematch. Paulie is hardly the second best fighter in that division. He has no power, his defense is suspect, and the only effective punch he throws is the jab.
Irregardless how and who he beat bud . . . he worked for it. And the guy is not being over rated here . . . infact he is well hated. And among the present belt holders he was the only one who has defended his title so far. It's only logical that he becomes #1. Power? Defense? We will see how he will fair against Hatton.
Hatton fought Mayweather because he knew it was a big money fight and he also knew he would probably never get another chance at that payday had he not went after it. Hatton was supposedly the no.1 fighter at LWW when Mayweather fought there. Depsite this, he wanted no part of Mayweather back then; said he wasn't ready. Funny how his mind changed once the numbers came back from that Hoya figh. Trust me, if Mayweather was the no.1 contender right now at JWW and was on the same level as Paulie in terms of being a draw; Hatton would never fight him. He wouldn't even fight Witter. Tszyu was also old and inactive. Most importantly though, Tszyu was the champ, and hadn't didn't have a belt yet. Not many challengers are going to duck a title shot. Of course, after he beat Tszyu, Ricky went after the weakest remaining champ. I'm telling the truth. I can't help it if you don't want to accept it.
Malignaggi is overrated. Many people consider him the second best fighter at 140, that he is not. He's never even beat a solid B level fighter in his entire career. I don't care about his belt. N'Dou was literally given that belt, he didn't beat anyone to get it.
You're crazy. Hatton would never beat Cotto, which is why he never pursued a fight with him. Don't buy into Hatton's bull****. Mayweather belittled Hatton plenty of times before they fought. Mayweather said Hatton was nothing but a fatman and wasn't good enough to shine his shoes. Yet he still fought him. The reason he fought him was becasue of the money. If Witter was a big draw, Hatton would've fought him. He decided not to figh him because of the risk/reward factor.
The guy who never gets respect and appreciation any anywhere is over rated? :-( Many considered him the second best because he is. It's pre-mature to call Santos or Bradley better not until they fight and Malignaggi loses.
Paulie is considered by many to be the no.1 rated contender at LWW. He is not the second best fighter at that division. This means that he is rated higher than he should be. This means that he is overrated. I'd pick Hatton, Torres, Holt, Witter, Bradley, and Peterson over him right now. Holt is more deserving of that no.1 contender spot than is Paulie.

I'm basing it on Pauilie's lack of skill and lack of accomplishments at 140. The fight is happening because it's an easy title grab for Hatton.
