Spot on here. Manny did the same thing in the Iggy fight. He told him something like "This is bad, this is going to look real bad". I think Manny knows that Wlad's performances has swayed HBO away from him. Steward also knows that american fans want exciting fights and knockouts. So until the 12th round, Wlad was putting on another borefest. The only thing exciting about the fight was the last 30 seconds of it.
Right. If you are winning, you don't change what works so well. But then again, its a sport that is meant to be a business. A business that entertains paying customers. And while I agree in that Steward should be concerned about winning, period, he also took into account ( and maybe wrongfully so ) the marketability of Wlad in the boxing business.
He's doomed, no one to fight, will never be recognize at his level cuz he's too boring. Still this fight was a joke, Vitaly Johnson 2 anyone?
Those hard right hands, and even the one that caused Chambers to stagger back and almost fall..............so that was a borefest to you? :blood The fight had many great heavy shots that landed flush. That is entertaining boxing. Granted, those big shots could have been followed up on more agressively, but you can't be overly dramatic and say the entire first 11 rounds was a borefest, as that is rediculously exaggerating the fight. It had its moments, and then ended in dramatic fashion.
There were points during the fight that were exciting, but just counting the 11 rounds. It was another boring fight by Wlad. A little better than the Chagaev affair, but worse than his fight with Thompson. If you count he last round, it was about as exciting as the Thompson fight.
He could of thrown a lot more right hands, for whatever reason, he refused. When he did throw them, they were landing and hurting Eddie, which makes his refusal to throw more all the more stranger, don't you think?
I think Wlad is afraid of getting hit "with some crazy ****" as Manny would say. Also, he might be scared to open up, considering his history of getting knocked out.
Manny was...... Manny S. has been through this **** with 'Lewis' before.... Manny hates seeing his boy in total control and the obvious superior fighter in the ring being passive and reluctant to close the damn show with a bang....... OKAY! Wlad Klit closed the show with a bang, but Manny believed Wlad should've done that somewhere around the 8th or 9th round...... Back in 2002, Manny S. felt Lenny Lewis should've had Tyson gone by round 6..... Tyson did exit in round 8 on his back and all cut-up with blood...... MR.BILL:deal
Is there a video of this? I watched german stream and they never show the 1min break. Comercials always, damn it.
He is the trainer. It is his job to motivate his fighter and give advice. It worked. What is so hard to understand about that?
Lewis was never as tetative or boring as wlad, lewis wasn't scared to go toe to toe with heavy punchers. The only time he was safety first was against tua and he put on a cinic that night. Also lewis could of stepped it up against holyfield but he never looked scaed to engage at anytime. Then again Lewis was far superior fighting on the inside and was a more complete fighter, wlad should of got the job done far earlier against chambers. I don't see chambers getting to the 12th round against a 33 year old lewis do you ?:huh
Larry Holmes is the greatest to ever do it. I watched him take the belt in 1978 at my Grandma's house. We didn't give a damn about the fight because Ali was supposed to beat everybody down. We just wanted to be around for the Ali celebration until this one 6 year old kids said, Larry Holmes is going to beat him... watch. Boxing was a big deal where I'm from.
There is no way this was just a way to motivate Wlad. You could see AND hear Steward's frustration. He was saying things like "this is going to look real bad" "this is going to be another bull**** decision" "you're bigger and stronger than this guy but you're just not punching" "this is like igbragimov all over again" Plus Manny had been telling Wlad to start throwing the left hook from about the 6th round, and he just didn't. He just continued to paw out his left, occasionally forcing his his jab through Chambers guard and throwing the right a few times a round. To me it's become clear that Wlad has huge psychological issues. Now, i'm not calling him a ***** or anything like that, as anyone who gets in the ring deserves respect. But from the 2/3rd round it was clear that Wlad was in with a guy who couldn't hurt him and only threat was a jab to the body - yet he refused to throw the left hook or straight right with ANY type of regularity. And this is after being told to do so by his corner after every round. He was content to jab and back off.
That was the point! Manny wanted to know he was still awake. Corner work is a psychological affair. A good fighter is nothing, without a great corner. Got his attention didn't it? Hehehe.
