Personally I don´t think Mercer has anything on Layne from what I know about both.

Bingo. Dempsey's run as champion is pretty hard to defend. His opposition was good pre-title, but he really didn't do everything to prove himself in his era. I see a double-pass with this when a lot Marciano detractors... or perhaps non-fans don't think much of him but then go on to rate Dempsey's skills/resume as being a top 3 HW caliber.

He Grant, I know we bump heads but I think you would like this quote on Marciano. A historian said this about Marciano. It's one of my favorite quotes on the man.

Herb Goldman, "I see his legacy as a fighter, as a man of indomitable courage. Rocky Marciano showed what the will to win can do."

Most people on this forum are here to discuss boxing, not to air their personal issues.

Race is obviously a pivotal issue for you because it comes up in most of your posts.

    Real boxing fans are colourblind.

Their favourite fighters are usualy a bit of a mixed bag.

    Janitor,

Might Sam Langford and Rocky Marciano be the two strongest p4p fighters to ever enter the ring?

    At their approximate weight perhaps.

If you take in the lower weight classes then the pool gets prety deep.

KN, this is an English speaking -- not gibberish -- boxing forum. No problem with your typing, it just makes the incoherence more glaring.

What also is clear, your anger about Marciano goes far deeper than how good a fighter he was.

We have a saying over here in Germany: "don´t argue with idiots, they pull you down on their niveau and beat you with experience."

Don´t do that John, he ain´t worth it. :bart

    "Chuck Wepner"

I don't remember Wepner winning the championship, ko'ing the best of his time, nor going undefeated. Are these possibly the reasons Marciano is considered better by most "white folks" than Wepner.

What's not discussed often is that Marciano was a terrific athlete. He played baseball on a near pro level. Speed aside he was a good football player. He wrestled. My point in all this was the man learned to maximize his talents.

With a low center of gravity, hugh legs and a powerful trunk there is no doubt he was a pitbull ..
