Look I respect Max .. he was always well conditioned, he was very smart, he had a dangerous style against certain styles ... it's no insult to say he loses to Marciano ... very few guys under 200m would not have ... Rocky was a very intelligent beast and that's a very tough guy to fight ...

Larry Gains and Gypsy Daniels were good fighters. Max Baer and Joe Louis are two of the best punchers of all time, and Max was stopped by them both in potentially the best performances of either of their careers. One TKO loss in Schmeling's first few fights doesn't even seem to be worth noting. Also, all of Schmeling's stoppages were by TKO. The beating he took from Baer as tremendous and he was stopped on his feet, and even after the pasting he took from Louis he was still awake. The Gypsy Daniels KO seems something of an anomaly.

Walcott was KO'd by an old Louis, Rocky Marciano, Al Ettore, Abe Simon

There is a clip on the Wills/ Louis thread above that shows Schmeling v Uzcudun. it might give some idea how Max would handle a crouching swarmer.
