As much as I like Rocky I have trouble seeing him keeping Tyson off. But there is always the intangible. If you guys recall when computer generation was still in its early stages they had Ali and Marciano come together to create a simulation. The computer took in all the data and it had Marciano winning late.
Prime Tyson probably wins a brutal slugfest, as great as Rocky was. If it does come down to heart by the mid-to-late rounds, Rocky wins. I just don't think the Rock will be able to survive in good enough shape to then, to make Mike question himself enough. Mike would have to be my pick to win.
Cus didn't teach him how to clinch and hold , he thought Tyson how to cut the distance as a small guy and how to chop guys down with short punches on the inside. Guys holding on to him have no bearing on what Tyson could and couldn't do. They were forced to hold because of Tyson's ability up close. Mike was a great body shotter , hooker and uppercutter. All that work was done on the inside. The bob n weave which was thought to him by cus cannot be implemented without getting up close since a purpose of the weave was to transition into a hook. He moved forward with a short reach in the earmuff /peek-a-boo defense , the entire strategy was predicated on being up close. In the 90's , when he lost all his foot speed and combination ability , he turned into a single shot hitman type , and that gave the impression he was a mid range boxer. Bruno , Frazier , Biggs , Tubbs etc - all battered in close.
This is the kind of question you ask when you become too invested in boxing history. We could call it Boxing History Derangement Syndrome (BHDS), when your emotional attachment to historic boxers and urge to separate yourself as a 'hardcore' away from the unwashed casuals leads you to believe very strange things ("Marciano would knock out an elephant"). Tyson would knock Marciano out brutally and early. If somehow this fight could be made, Tyson would go off an overwhelming favourite, no more than 1/20. Marciano was 5'10.5 with a 68' reach, and weighed in the 180s pounds. He is a super-middleweight, or a light heavyweight at best. We should really be talking about Marciano vs Callum Smith, who is a lot bigger than Marciano - this would be a competitive fight.
tyson was grabbed by all his opponents because he had no inside game?? haha how more opposite an interpretation of events can u get. They all grabbed him because they didnt want to get ktfo.
I picked Tyson. I don't think Rocky makes it in good enough shape to the mid rounds to make "heart" count, like I initially said.
Yup, exactly. People on here talk about Marciano as though he is Rocky Balboa and has endless endurance and heart. In reality, he would be grossly undersized against someone like Mike Tyson and overwhelmed very quickly. Remember the very first guy that Tyson fought, a guy called Hector Mercedes? That's around about how big Marciano was.
Was Tyson 6ft 3 lol whats it matter than because i can name plenty that Marciano stone cold Ko'd Tyson's height!
Is this a joke? Marciano would be a small Slow lightheavyweight by today’s standard, fought lightheavyweight bums and old man and didn’t knock all of them out, marciano the most overrated punching power ever, took him plenty of big swinging punches to stop a old lightheavyweight Archie Moore , how is that anywhere close to heavyweight power, he’d be a lightheavyweight power puncher but a heavyweight feather fist. And got dropped by two old lightheavyweights ,he’d get crushed by modern light heavyweights who are way bigger than him plus way more athletic way more skilled not to mention Tyson or any decent heavyweights above 200ib post 50s . marciano and any " heavyweights "around that weight should not be compared to Any heavyweights above 200 post 50s.
This fight wouldn't even be competitive. Speed and balance kill here. Marciano is out of there before the third bell.
Canelo vs Rocky would be a more intriguing match. Canelo rehydrated at 200 lbs vs prime Rocky at 185.
q Quite right. Rocky was a SOFT 185. Shredded he could trivially easily have got to say 175-180. Deyhdrated I don't think 160 would have been totally out of the question. Getting to 168 dehydrated would have been an absolute walk in the park. Marciano was a fairly modestly big guy by the standards of men born in the immediate post WW1 period, no more, no less. 100% a modern supermiddleweight at the very most.
This match has been posted many times in this forum. Marciano can't resist Tyson's power. Tyson does not only hit hard but he's very fast as well.
