Walcott was 5 years older when he fought Marciano.
It's not safe to say anything in boxing unless it is demonstrably proven!

 

One would think so but then you've got the likes of Jacko entertaining not only Moore beating Lewis but LaStarza as well.

What's that got to do with anything, you don't gauge someone's punch power any different.

Walcott stated Marciano hit harder so I'll take that at face value.

 

if you dont think age/accumulated ring mileage has anything to do with punch resistance,you need to log out and take up following wrestling!

 

Again twisting words, I'll say it again. Age doesn't change your ability to gauge power. So a fighter at 38 would somehow have a different opinion on someone's power than he would at say 33? Absolute bull**** and you know it!

Marciano was a huge puncher.
He had plenty of limitations as a fighter but power wasn't one of them.
His punching power was one of his main assets.

 

No one KO Vitali including Lewis TKO off a cut. Anyhow what’s your point? Should we break down every fighter ever record and micro scrutinize it?because we can do that and you’ll see many people were knocked out multiple times in their career or they had to face older champs ex champs exc. Or can we just go by general greatness of competition. Tyson was knocked out several times by some of these guys no one would claim he had a bad chin. You’ve talked yourself into demeaning winning fighters in a poor attempt to prove your argument time and again. Moore at that point never lost a HW fight and was innocent like a 20plus win streak.

 

"Marciano was not big or good enough to compete nowadays" is a completely different proposition to questions about his punching power.
Having a short reach isn't a barrier to generating powerful punches.
188 pounds is ample body weight to transfer to render a man unconscious with a punch.

 

They can't get that point in to their dense heads!

They try comparing Marciano with fighters who are that much bigger they would be in different weight classes FFS!

 

A 37 year old Holyfield went the 12 round distance with Lewis, TWICE.
So I wouldn't be surprised if 37 year old Louis could last 8 with him !
Which is exactly how many rounds Phil Jackson and shot 36 year old Mike Tyson lasted with Lewis.

I do not disagree. He was plenty big enough knock out anyone.

That said, he wasn't particularly a one shot artist when he got to what qualified as elite in his day. He was a guy who needed wear down his best opponents. Look, no one at the top of the heavies is a reliable one shot artist. Hell, very few are at lesser weights. Wilder is one of the rare ones at heavyweight and he has been lucky to make it successful so far. I don't think Marciano hits harder than a plethora of guys who have come along since the 60's and who were blessed with greater physical talents. He certainly juiced all he could out of the hand he was dealt. But in an objective view, it just wasn't much of a hand.

 

Light Heavy Moore and 6ft 190 pounds La Starza are not doing anything with a specimen like Lennox in his pomp.
