Lightheavies and Heavies freely mingled with each other in the 40s and 50s, it wasn't uncommon for exceptional LHW fighters like Charles, Moore, and Johnson to target top Heavies to get a shot at any belt they could in the crowded tightly structured divisions of the time. I would consider Moore ATG at Heavy or damn close, like Quarry he is one of the best to never wear a belt and his resume speaks for itself. Moore has beat almost as many top 5 heavies as Lewis oddly enough: Bivins, Henry, Baker, Valdez, and Lavorante...etc. Than you have to consider top 5 LHW Moore scalps like Harold Johnson were regularly beating top heavies and seeking out a title shot with Marciano. Johnson would have been top 5 if not for Ring's ranking policy, Moore himself was denied a heavyweight ranking by Ring until they finally broke their rules for him. Charles not ATG at heavy? Right...I'm not even going to list all the top heavies he beat or the fact he was the busiest Champion in history. -Who was "Past prime" is subjective to argument, and the same case can be made for Lewis' ATG wins. -Yes, Lewis beat four Ring top 3 off the top of my head...Holyfield, Grant, Tyson, and Rahman. Well, Lewis has 6 Ring Top 5 victories by my count which is pretty fantastic as I done said. But Marciano still beat 10. -Layne's accomplishments speak for themselves. Vitali and Rahman are probably close, I could see an argument. But Tua? Bruno? Morrison? Mercer? Ruddock? Golota? Oh dear....
