Corrales was in horrible physical condition towards the end of his superfeatherweight stint. I thought he fought like a zombie vs Mayweather and Casamayor x2 (yes, even in the fight he won). It was only after he moved to 135 that he regained his early-career fire, in the fights vs Freitas and Castillo 1. If Corrales came to the ring in his weight-weakened zombie mode at 130, he'd find Barrera's combinations even harder to defend against.
Barrera could make Corrales's height and reach work against him if he stayed inside and worked the body, which MAB was an expert at. I think there is definitely something to be said aswell about Corrales's defense which has always been full of holes.
Barrera was just a much better fighter. Chico was a good fighter with a big heart and an entertaining style, but Barrera was truly elite.
beautiful quick jab nice, quick combos great chin great stamina great workrate huge heart when needed ability to outbox if he had to great in fighting MARCO UD
MAB showed his will against Morales didnt he? The only 2 men to have beat MAB convincingly in his prime both had speed, Chico is not particularly fast. MAB outboxes Chico on the backfoot relatively easy, and despite what people think, its unlikely Chico knocks him out with 1 shot. He had a very good chin, he showed that when he took everything Pac, JMM and Morales had and was only stopped due to accumulation. Those guys werent powderpuff punchers at 130 either, and Pac wasn't far off Chico's power.
This is the thing...MAB & Corrales has the same reach. MAB ha slong reach for his height and Chico has very short reach for his height.
barrera puts on his boxing boots in the mid rounds (after some brutal early exchanges) and outpoints chico with a sweet display.....chico has his moments and lands some bombs but marco's chin holds up well. good scrap....
