    Pretty much.

But this raises an issue that always bothers me:

Forget about plaster wraps, etc. If I fighter makes it to the top with below average skills, just because he has a thick skull & small brain, does that make him worthy of our respect?

    I'm not sure.

One thinks of not just Margo, but JCC, (proven to have a thick skull from x-rays) Jake LaMotta, and to some extent Pacman.

    - But Margo might be the prime example. Getting hit seems to make him happy. So, if he stays in there and keeps throwing, does that make him brave? A warrior? - or something else?

Have a look at the condition of Cotto's face during round 9 in both of the fights.

He looks to have sustained the same amount of damage. it's only the last couple of rounds of the first fight where he gassed and copped the beating that made him look so messed up.

So drugs are fine? Ever seen someone loaded up with PCP and meth take 10 bullets and still continue to come forward at the cops. PEDs allow someone to do more damage than they otherwise would have been able to do. Same result.

Only a ****ing ****** would try to minimise the effect and consequences of PEDs in boxing.

@ TS: I parially agree, as Margarito always comes to fight, but this fighter type won't vanish with him, so I don't think that he will be missed, especially as his reputation is totally destroyed as portrayed in this thread...

I mean if you like gritty fighters you could watch Kirkland, Maidana, Huck or Arreola just from the top of my head. Not that they have exceptionel skills or anything but they always fight going forward

Margaritos chin is without a question very good, but you have to see that Cotto also showed great heart in his fight with Pac, did not seek the easy out and was equally demolished..

Good post Jack. One of my favorite fighters for sure.

I was thinking about this today, as tough as this guy is, he's done I think. His style is meant for young men, come forward, take shots and get off your own and wear guys down. He's slowed down just enough to make him not that guy anymore. He used to pick off punches pretty good too, and I don't think his reflexes are there for that anymore. However, the heart never quits with that guy. But given the fact his eye is seemingly f*cked, I think he should retire now. He can't beat top guys anymore in my opinion, but I know he would gladly try and take an ass kicking with no complaints.

    Really?

What is the purpose and effect of both?

Hey, do me a favour and go and punch a plaster wall. Guess what, your fist will go through it without much trouble. All plaster would do is protect the fist, not make it harder. Bones are denser than plaster.

Look up Izolnier's post where he exactly explains the various degrees of bull**** behaviour in the ring, there is a reason there a laxer forms of punishment and the possibility of hard punishment according to the severity of the crime/misbehavior/whatever at hand.

If you cannot get this in your head, discussions are senseless, because it would be as useful as discussing whether the earth is flat or not
