Margarito vs. Mosley

Margo will win bud . . .but I don't see it happening by stoppage. Shane has all the ability to move and avoid being pinned down and a good chin to go with it.

Maybe I'm being biased because I also like Mosley . . . but Mosley is a master boxer compared to Cotto.

 

Mosley has never shown me once throughout his career that he was difficult to find. The Vargas fight is an anomoly. Vargas had serious health issues and periods of inactivity to warrent speculation. Against all other opponents at the top Mosley was hit, and hit frequently. Why do you think this Mayorga fight is getting made? Someone is out to fool the public. Just like DLH does and just like Trinidad did.

What got Mosley through other fights was heart, speed and nerves. Those nerves are fading and so is that speed. Cotto clearly was able to box and move on Mosley and limit not getting hit with more than one punch during the exchanges. That should tell you A) Mosley doesn't throw alot and B) Mosley isn't the sharp combination puncher he once was.

The difference between Cotto and Margarito is that there are no breaks during rounds. Where Cotto and Mosley complimented each other on getting those breaks, Margarito won't. Mosley cannot hurt Margarito. This isn't Wright who was dropped 5 times by Vasquez. Margarito has a serious, serious chin. Probably the best chin Shane will have hit since DLH. And I do believe even better.

Now some might be thinking back to that Wilfredo Rivera fight. That might be what is confusing everyone. Rivera is no Margarito. He doesn't have Margarito's chin to walk through punches. He can't put the kind of pressure on that Margarito brings. Plus, Mosley is much older now.

I'm not saying Margarito knocks him out cold. Margarito will stop him when the pressure gets too hot for an old pro.

Four years ago Shane would have dismantled Margo, today he gets outworked and lose a UD.

 

He is getting up their in age. He wont be looking good against everyone.

A guy who throws a lot of hard punches per round and never gets hurt? We will see about that. I want to see how good he looks against Mayorga.

 

i picked mosley ud.
reason is that a guy like cotto who was a renowned body puncher and inside fighter was able to do many a mayweather manuva on margo.

it was clear to me that cotto didnt comit to his bread and butter and paid the price.

mosley i dont think will get koed...he can look messy when he is off balance but in reality he is just a solid counterpuncher whos defence can be worked through with a jab.

margarito does jabs but isnt a technical jabber and will smother his work. mosley i feel will take the advantage and use the outside to pot shot sna use combinations when margo has caught up with him.

mosley is a proficient inside fighter. far sparkier and snappier than margo's.




betting fav for margarito of course but i give a pretty good chance to the mighty mos.

 

How do these fighters get so much hype? I mean....Mosley lost to Vernon Forrest. Nothing against Forrest, but he wasn't all that. he got massacred by Mayorga. Which is kind of interesting since it's now Mayorga vs Mosley, but both are way out of there primes.
Styles do make fights though, but do people not take any of this in to account??? Margarito is in the prime shape of his life, and Mosley couldn't even beat Vernon Forrest around the prime of his life. What makes people think Mosley beats margarito when he's way apast his prime???! I give him credit for being a good fighter throughout his career, and taking a lot of fights, but currently Margarito is a BEAST. He has a style that a fighter knows exactly what's going to happen....Marg will try to come out strong, more than likely lose a few rounds if he goes up against a worthy competitor, he'll keep coming on, throwing punches, leaning against you, wearing you down, and eventually this man will break you down. It's amazing to be able to have a style that is basically an advanced toughman style (you actually need to be in shape, throw a lot of punches from different angles), and he's able to take down people who are pretty much all round complete fighters (such as cotto).

 

Wrong! thats the mistake Cotto made throwing punches while back pedaling with nothing on them it encourages Margo to chase and build momentum. You are on the run and not utilizing your full power this allows Margo to take even greater liberties coming in, what it does is it allows him to dig in even more.

Mosely like Cotto has good power. The key is to make Margo backup or at least stop and defend. When you halt his progress he is not as effective. You cant beat Margo by flurrying and running this plays right to his strengths. It encourages him to dig in even more and tires you out for him to eventually win by attrition. He can do this when he has a great size advantage to great effect but he doesnt have great 1 punch KO power, this allows you to fully commit in the instances when you go on offense

Move side to side use angles but dont run so as to conserve that energy. Make Margo pay for lunging early dig hooks to the body and Clinch. Focus at all times., He wont gain momentum he is slow feint and move but dont run or make it easy by going to the ropes. I dont suggest Mosely slug it out with Margo just hold his ground a little by commiting fully when he goes on offense then angles and side to side and clinch remember Margo is not a one punch Kayo artist.

He is too big at welter for fighters under 5'8" to purely box as he will pressure until they wilt.

The only one successful at this was Williams beacuse of his great size he didnt have to expend as much energy to reach and touch Margo over 12.

Remember Cotto is only 5'7" regardless of what they say, and Mosely is 5'9" to Margos 5'11" it makes a difference.

 

No he's not. Mosley has never been a master boxer, and Cotto's always been more fundamentally solid than Mosley.

Mosley is a speedy slugger with phenomenal athletic gifts which usually made up for his tendency to be sloppy and leave himself open in the exchanges (where he excelled).

 

Tough fight and I lean towards Mosley although im biased ill admitt. I feel like Shane matches up well because hes a guy like Margarito who can fight a full strong 12 rounds,takes a good shot and cant have his will broken Shane has trouble making adjustments sometimes but hes a warrior and will keep banging. Shane is alot faster then Margarito and will be willing to brawl which might discourage Margarito as hes never had anyone willing to mix it up like that and stay in the pocket. Brutal fight these guys will put a hurting on each other for sure. 2000 Mosley I think its clear decision just way to much speed now hes slowed enough although still very fast but slowed enough to make it a tossup unless Shane is worse off then he was vs Cotto which is possible its been like 10 months and hes 37 I guess we will see vs Mayorga.
