I was thinking the same thing. Margarito is bad for Cotto in the sense that he has a great chin, stamina, and throws a hell of an uppercut (which we have seen in fights previous to the Johnson fight). Plus, he has the bigger frame. Not to say Cotto would give him a hell of a fight, but I think this would be a brutal scrap of wills. Cotto is the guy, however, to beat Big tall Paul Williams. Williams is soft and shows he can be hurt and bothered by a stalking pressure fighter (see Margarito fight). The difference between Margarito and Cotto is that Cotto is better at pressuring, cutting off the ring, and hitting to the body which should prove to be successful against a the thin, tall mobile Williams.
Margarito would KO Cotto, although he would take punishment in doing so as Cotto's punches are straighter. But that's Margo's style. He always takes shots to give out his. The only guy at WW who could beat Margo is the one who did -- Paul Williams. And after last night's performance and comments by Margarito, I think I would favor AM in a rematch with Williams.
You're delusional. If he could be outboxed, how come Mosley, Malignaggi, or Quintana couldn't accomplish this? If he could "only win by overpowering and bully his opponent," how come he was winning rounds last night fight off the back foot? If his footwork "****ing sucks" how come he is one of the best, if not the best, today at cutting off the ring?
i'd use the word could ko not would ko. but i agree tony has the style that will give cotto trouble. he will hold his ground and press the fight. this would be a who wears down first type of fight.
Cotto v. Margarito would be a great fight. Cotto's looking like he can take a punch better @ 147 then he did @ 140. And Margarito has a great chin as well. While I think Cotto would be the fave, I think Margarito could beat him. I like that he's going to make an effort to start faster. Had he done that v. Williams, he may have won a clear UD.
cotto is a very good fighter but i picked tony to tko him in july&i make the same prediction for the rematch.
