It's not really going to make a difference how tough Margarito is against Mayweather. The punches aren't going to hurt him, we know that.

He'll just be outboxed, plain and simple. It was Cotto's flaws that Margarito took advantage of, and Mayweather doesn't share them. It is also the case that Mayweather is far more comfortable playing the counterpuncher than Cotto, who was like a fish out of water but still outboxed Margarito early.

It's definitely possible. Margarito was just going after Cotto without jabbing or even moving his head and that's why Cotto was hitting him with all those counters. I was thinking to myself that I Margo did the same he would lose to PBF because he has beter stamina and defense.

With all that said, Margarito's size, intensity and boxing skills should not be underestimated. He knows how to cut off the ring and if he jabs more on the way in and keeps his hands up, it would be a tough night for PBF. Anything is possible later in the fight.

obviously the popular choice is floyd by UD, but anybody that thinks it would be easy is just stupid. there's one thing floyd mayweather doesn't like, and that's pressure. you can say what you want, but floyd has NEVER fought a pressure fighter like tony before nor has he fought a guy with tony's punch output. somebody that can throw 125 punches a round and only get stronger as the fight goes on. pbf doesn't hit harder than cotto and tony was taking his shots as if he was getting hit by pillows. tony's constant pressure will force pbf to throw punches. it doesn't matter how fast you are, when you fight tony you're going to have to punch. there's no other way around it. and that's exactly what tony wants. floyd has brittle hands and tony will exploit that from the very first round.

floyd has great stamina, but this will be the first time where he will be in the ring with a guy with even greater stamina than his. floyd's endurance is top notch but he HAS shown signs of fatigue in previous fights. that's exactly why he goes to the corner and does the shoulder roll. it's not to be cute, it's to get a breather. and against tony, that could be very dangerous. if this fight were to go down, there's 3 things we can guarantee to see from floyd. he will be on the move more than he ever has in his career. he will be dodging and weaving more than he ever has in his career. and lastly...and most importantly...he will be punching more than he ever has in his career. and those 3 things can play a HUGE factor in the outcome. sure it's easy to look at the pure talent and pick floyd to win...but when you really factor in everything, there's really no question it would be the toughest fight of floyd's career.

I've noticed Margarito and Cotto get underrated a lot here. Those guys put on one of the greatest fights I ever saw, with guts blood and glory. Their boxing was beautiful to watch.

I've seen a lot of fights, and I can't see those two (Margo and Cotto) overrated. Margo and Cotto are beasts of a different nature, nothing like anything PBF ever faced. Hatton, Gatti, and Baldomir, they are the definition of overrated. Chico's mouthpiece is the only thing that belongs in the HOF. If a Margarito-PBF fight was like a Baldomir-PBF fight, PBF would be jumping all over the phone making the fight happen.

Margarito is so risky for PBF, he will never fight Margo, unless Margorito gets into 700 wars, and deteriates before our very eyes, then PBF might take the fight. PBF could beat Margarito if they fought. But see, the reason PBF doesn't take the fight is because if you lose, your face turns into a horror picture. It's a public humiliation that's forever. And he doesn't want to risk that happening to him, when Cotto, Williams, and others were man enough to walk through the fire.

Very well said...I can't see how anyone could say that Margarito and Cotto aren't the genuine article. The people that share this opinion aren't true fight fans!!

I don't believe this, he could have had an easy fight against Oscar again just for money and he still didn't came out of retirement.

If Mayweather fought Margo it would pan out like the 1st 6 rounds of Cotto Vs Margo...however this one sided exhibition will continue until the 12th. And here are the reasons.

    1. Mayweather is a much better boxer than Cotto. His footwork and defence will be enough to stop Margo from scoring when they are in centre ring. Floyd will be able to land any punch he wants to against Margo. Its just a case of which one.

    2. Many of you might think that if Floyd gets stuck on the ropes Margo will punish him. Well...i dont think so. De La Hoya, who is a much more dynamic boxer than Margo, had Floyd on the ropes and threw combo after combo and landed very little. Not only did he land very little but he got countered with great right crosses.

The only thing that will keep this fight interesting is Margos will. He will be able to take Mayweathers best punches and keep coming. However as we saw on that saturday, if you keep moving and give Margo angles you can defeat him.

    Mayweather UD Margo 117-111

KO HAPPENS WHEN A FIGHTER CAN GET HIT CLEAN AND mARGO WILL NOT HIM HIM FLUSH. fLOYD HAS BETTER FOOTWORK, GREAT STAMINA, D, and speed. Also people don't really give Floyd credit about his body work. It's some of the best

DLH pressured Mayweather for the first 4-5 rounds only.

After that Oscar got tired & frustrated and played it safe until the final bell.

Last time I checked Oscar kept the pressure up all the way to the 12th, though his pressure started to get less affective as he got tired but the pressure was still there and from a WAY bigger opponent in comparison to Mayweather. Castillo kept the pressure for 12 rounds twice, Baldomir, Corrales, J.Chavez and many others who are far more skilled than Margarito.

hoya has never been known as a pressure fighter, and it was obvious he got tired, pbf started picking him off once he tired out.

This is not about stamina, its about technique. For instance when De La Hoya was fresh he didnt land that much leather on Mayweather. Lets face it, De La Hoya has better technique than Margo. Mayweathers defence when he is in and out of the pocket is superb and with Margos lack of technique and speed.....

Like I said, the thing that keeps this fight interesting is Margos stamina and will to win and its the only thing keeping this fight from becoming a complete whitewash.

PBF by easy UD with PBF taking very little punishment from Margarito. Margarito is going to be getting hit flush all night long from the guy with the best connect percenatage of all time. Floyd's defence is going to be way to good for Margo to land much of anything flush on the out side or in the pocket. I don't even have to mention how good of counter puncher Money is. I know Margo beat Cotto but lets not get crazy its still Margorito the same guy that lost to Santos a very basic fighter who has the heart and chin of a beast. But still just Margorito he has been around for a while now and he didn't just wake up and all of a sudden become a world beater.
