JMM is an a plus fighter but he has been inconsistent even in his victories for a few years. JMM looked terrible against Diaz in the first fight, great in the second. Awful against Katsidis, awful and slow against Manny in the fourth fight except for a brilliant minute, but in the third fight he looked like a boxing God. He looked bad against Casamayor, getting hit by every left lead cleanly, before the KO. The fourth Pacquiao fight, his best win, is actually his worst performance ever on a round by round basis. Somehow I always knew he wasn't going to do anything to Mayweather, nothing at all, so I won't count that against him - just a bad style match up. Hopefully he has a great night against non-punching Bradley and calls it a career.
I dont know what you expect of a fighter who shows up to throw down. The Kats and Diaz fights? Marquez chose to War with them, and for good reason, to land a Pacquiao fight. Arum had allready been calling him a boring fighter. So were alot of fans. Kats, Diaz, Casa, even MAB, Marquez chooses to striclty box those fighters and he pitches near shutouts but in boring fights that have the arena leaving like what happened in Mayweather vs Baldomir. Like in what happens in nearly every Hopkins fight. Years ago Marquez was being accused of being boring, now he's critiqued for making certain he lands bigger fights while at the same time entertainging the viewer. Btw, getting knocked down does'nt equate to being awful. Except for the knockdown Marquez dominated Kats, dont know what the hell you're watching. :nut Who was the first fighter to stop Diaz? To stop Casa??? ........yet he looked awful to you? :!::nut
With all due respect you can post all the Compubox ( or other worthless stats ) you like, the video tape shows differently. *******s will always convince themselves their guy lunging in and throwing plenty of punches is effective, but the reality is when he gets countered to ****, with crisper, cleaner, harder shots, he is far from dominating. Those better shots might not add up to as many, but they affect Paci - OW a hell of a lot more than his affect the other guy. Fights DON'T get won on bloody, and / or broken noses. They get won when the guy with the nose damage can knock the other one to fvck out. And Marquez PROVED he can. JMM was never CLOSE to being stopped in any of the 42 rounds these guys fought. However it is plain for ALL to see that when he decided to sit down on his punches midway through the 6th round in fight 4 he clearly hurt Paci _ OW, and bothered him to such an extent he was afraid to commit himself to going toe to toe, and tried to change his MO to lunging in, throw 1 or 2, and get the hell back out. As for him being ruined I neither know nor care whether he is or not. What I do believe I know is he will never get the better of JMM if he lives to be a million. The guy is simply too good for him, with or without favourable judges to the Fillipino.
You just described one of the reasons JMM is considered a great fighter. Even in the fights where he did not perform his best he was forced to dig deep and came out victorious.
I don't deny that. I also think that he beat Freddy Norwood easy and that his disqualification loss is a disgrace - he knocked the guy out and "lost". actually, I think he probably only lost a handful of rounds in his career before Pac almost blew him out in one. JMM is an all time great and he always was - it was clear from like his fifteenth fight that his talent and skill were unbelievable. I just think he has looked bad lately, but still has the intangibles to win. Age has made him slip A LOT. Diaz was really taking it to him in the first fight, and let's be honest - JMM is 3 or 4 levels above Diaz. And Barrera-Marquez was an exciting fight.
So just like Floyd considered Cotto an undefeated fighter, I consider JMM an undefeated fighter until the first Pac fight. Let's screw the judges, JMM won the 3rd Pac fight and we all know it.
