Oscar was doing his job, promoting his fighters.

I think he was speaking from the heart in that conference, and even if he wasn't, he was only mimicking my own thoughts. I felt Mayweather was a bad match-up for Manny before Marquez even signed to fight Floyd. Pacquiao fans, or at least the irrational ones, will view my comments as offensive and immediately come back with those annoying emoticons. It's just what I believe, just speculation.

PAC will be in constant movement and will never let Floyd set... PAC will give Floyd big problems and a whole new look of what a very fast powerful southpaw opponent is...

I'd rather see him try and see him go out on his shield rather than speculate. So at least he can say he fought the best in his ERA.

His got a big task ahead of him though in Cotto.

Marquez landed like 50 punches the entire night. Power punches or not he wasn't given a chance to land good and test his power.

PBF gave JMM some free body punches, those shots would have crumbled the super featherweights. PBF smiled;)

  10. You've obviously never boxed before. When someone is bigger, it usually means he has more power and most of his punches can hurt you. Mayweather's punches had much more of an effect on Marquez than Marquez's did on Mayweather. This means that Marquez couldnt really take risks, he couldnt put his combinations together close enough to actually hit Mayweather. That was the difference.

Personally myself watching the fight.......I made up my mind that JMM did'nt have realistic shot to win in I believe was the third round......Marquez took the fight to Mayweather, tried to pin him on the ropes, and Mayweather shoved Marquez like a man pushing aside a child to get the hell out of the way........

......thats when I knew that Marquez being the aggressor and taking the fight to Mayeather was'nt going to work.

If you're an aggressor and the defender can toss you aside at will with his pure strenghth, you're not going to be much of an effective aggressor.

Take your rose colored glasses off and view the fight for what it was, a complete physical mismatch.

I would say JMM did tremendously well considering the type of physical mismatch he was thrown into!

    Physically JMM could'nt compete.

Truth of the day.....Emmanuel Steward....."there's a reason why we have weight classes in boxing!"

Aside from the obvious difference in punching power, when a fighter bulks up like JMM, he losses speed as well.

Bulking up in bodybuilding involves lifting heavy weights, slow, small number of repitions. This is exemplified by the video of Marquez lifting boulders and throwing them. It might make you stronger but it also makes you slower because slow, heavy weights, in limited repitions stimulates the slow - twitch muscle to hypertrophy or increase in size. If you want to be faster, the opposite is done, which is light weights, fast, many repititions.

And when the counterpuncher became the aggressor like in this fight, then the loss of speed becomes more obvious. As a counterpuncher, JMM needs to have fast twicth muscle which is responsible for his fast reflexes. However, because JMM had to be the aggressor, then that is even negated.

......and risks Marquez did take, he tried in vain to make Mayweather come to him......it was the only realistic shot he had to compete to win rounds.....but Mayweather was too smart for that......and said, "no Juan, where fighting this fight the way I want to fight it, you're coming to me."

As I watched the fight, I kept hoping that Mayweather would get brave and let his hands loose in combination.....in the hopes that Marquez could land a crisp counter on the button with Floyd opened up.....
.....but it was'nt to be, Mayweather just does'nt take such risks!
Not really bashing Floyd....I'm one of the few in this forum who has criticised him for ducking a few fighters, but have always pointed out how much I respected the mans genius in the ring.

Its going to be a pity, because before you know it, his early thirties in terms of age, will pass him real quick, and he's not facing the top fighters in his own weight class that pose a legit threat to him.
......a pity that he's not going to test his genius in the ring against a prime opponent his size or bigger that matters!
