Answer this. What about pacquiao is going to give JMM any more problems this time round? Has manny suddenly developed a strong fast jab? Does he still brawl when tagged? Can he still be countered hard? Is he still open for a right hand? Can he still be hurt?

Marquez has a great chance here if he prepares like he did for the 2nd fight.

That is a good question. I don't know if he's juicing, but one thing I'm sure is that Morales, Barrera and Marquez have always been better than Cotto. And I'm not talking about weight. People are thinking too much about the weight issue. I like Miguel, but he always had some flaws. Good fighter, not great. He can't fight off the back foot, his defence is OK not great and he can't clinch. He was also ready to quit after the Margarito fight. How could he beat Pacquiao ? It's the wrong fight for him.

The more Pacquiao is climbing up in weight, the slower are his opponents. Speed kills and that's why he won against Cotto. Take Pacquiao of the first Marquez fight and he beats Cotto. Marquez will always be better than Miguel against Pacquiao because he can handle the speed pretty well. Mayweather would beat Pacquiao if they meet because he can deal with his speed.

I don't agree with your argument that Pac is juicing because he struggled against Marquez and Morales and won against Cotto and Margarito. I'm not saying he's not juicing, I just don't think it is a good argument.

No see, it's both; to compete with Pacquiao maximizing himself, JMM has to unnaturally accentuate his own weight, and add on to himself. He cannot afford the luxury of coming in at whatever weight he wants. Him and Pacquiao both having to cut weight to make 130 does not compare to the way Pacquiao is maximizing his advantages in this situation.

Saying he's the better man just because he can compete better at a higher weight and has more natural ability just doesn't work. If Abraham were to land one lucky punch on Floyd with no weight restrictions, would be the better man? How about if Martinez knocked out Pacquiao with no weight restrictions? I'm all for weight jumping, but when Pacquiao can easily make a weight and re-hydrate to it, but instead exploits his opponent's size and maximizes his own physical advantages through negotiation, it's just plain unfair. 140 would have been fine; those few pounds of muscle can make all the difference, and I fear they will.

And while I don't think Koncz has all that much say in serious negotiations, there's a reason he says he hopes the weight will slow Marquez down.

If it doesn't a series of conclusions run through my mind, the main one being that marquez is better than he is given credit for and floyd's victory becomes more credible.

Pac has already proved enough so his legacy won't really suffer, it's just the other two will improve.

Marquez has already proven to be ineffective at welter when he lost every round to Mayweather and now he's 2 years older and slower....in other words Pac will destroy him and if he doesn't it will not look good for him and should remove him from the #1 spot p4p.

    1. I don’t think those 2 pounds made a difference, either. I think the fight was bull**** to begin with, even at that 144 catchweight. Floyd beat him because he was indeed the better, more skilled fighter. But by picking on a guy who was genuinely two weights smaller than, it made his night a little more easier. It’s the equivalent of him [Floyd] going up to 160 pounds to fight Sergio Martinez. Tell me, would that **** be fair?

    2. You don’t accept it as fact? Pacquiao weighing in at 148 and JMM at 145, aren’t facts to you? You do know that just because Pacquiao prefers to fight at 147, it doesn’t automatically make him a genuine sized 147 fighter, don’t you? The facts state that he weighs lighter than junior welterweights and even some lightweights, proving that he is indeed a small welterweight. JMM fighting him will not be as disadvantaging as it would be if he was fighting most other normal sized welterweights (who normally come into the ring around 155). Pacquiao is just a freak of nature in the way he’s able to compete so impressively in higher weights.

Pac really is more of a light welterweight who fights welterweights because there's more money to be made at 147 compared to 140 the past few years. Both are roughly the same size height and weight. The difference is Marquez chooses to cut weight and fight lightweights while Pac chooses not to cut weight and go after the money fights at 147. Name other welters that climb the ring at 148 pounds to fight at a 10-17 pound disadvantage?

Then why didn't he agree to a catchweight of 140 lbs.? They could still fight for Pacquiao's paper title, and Pac would be at his best weight.
