I seriously didn't expect that from GGG! Murray said you'd need a sledgehammer to beat him haha. Realistically who can GGG fight at 160 because I can't see anyone in the top ten (including Martinez) wanting to fight GGG
Very impressed with Golovkin last night, has he ever fought at 168? I'm thinking Golovkin Ward could be a FOTY!
Really? In my opinion, Macklin and Murray are very evenly matched.. perhaps even Macklin edges it going off previous form. 1. There's the argument that Macklin's power is more proven than Murray yet there was little to no effect on GGG when Macklin did land, so what would that mean for Murray. 2. I felt Macklin beat Sturm in a close but clear decision, like wise I felt Sturm just edged out Murray in a close but clear decision. 3. Both gave good accounts of themselves against Martinez, but again you could make the argument that although Murray went the distance.. Macklin was up on the scorecards before being stopped in the 11th and fought a better version of Martinez. I rate and like both Murray & Macklin, but GGG would do the exact same thing he did to Macklin to both Murray and Barker for that matter.
One has to smile when the one of the guys mentioned in match-up claims that he would need a weapon to beat the other!! If Murray himself does not think he would beat GGG then I guess it is case closed. BTW How can two recent challengers for the world title (Barker and Murray), both of whom acquitted themselves with credit in their title bids, sit next to each other on live tv and basically admit that they do not want any part of GGG? Yes GGG appears to be an exceptional fighter, but there is an opportunity of at least a tremendous pay day for either Barker or Murray!!! Gotta love Macklin though!!!
Usually fighters get slated for ducking fights, in Golovkin's case it almost seems justified. You genuinely fear for fighters brave enough to get in the ring with him
I've always been a big fan of Murray and was saying even before the Martinez fight he would beat Macklin, when most thought Murray was pretty overrated, so I'm not just being reactionary to their last two fights. For instance the Sturm fight. Which fighter fought like a tanked up pub brawler throwing a thousand punches without much thought - and then gassed because of it - and who fought a composed well paced fight, lasting the distance comfortably? Murray IMO. Granted, Murray was just edged out but from watching both those fights it was clear to me who had more upside and the higher ceiling. Again Martinez fight it was clear Macklin was flagging and getting to the stage - like against Moore - where he was almost asking to get knocked out. There's always an air of inevitability when Macklin gets stopped. Murray came under fire a bit late on in his fight with Sergio but was cruising in there, in control of all his senses, for the most part. The big problem with Macklin is his overly head-first stance, which becomes even more of a liability as he fatigues. He just burrows forward without much thought as his boxing becomes more muddled and less refined, so he feels he can't make an impression unless he unloads in close quarters. Murray on the other hand can fight long and throw without having to take one to give one so he does more without taking too much out of himself in the process. Murray would probably get stopped late on against Golovkin but he would hold his own and give as good as he gets before Golovkin overwhelms him. He would spark out Macklin between rounds eight and twelve.
Barker pretty much summed it up when he said himself and Murray have their own paths they're taking. Murray needs a nice steady record over the next few years as he's quite clearly a big family man. Fighting GGG isn't the route he needs right now.
