It was entertaining, Barker gave Martinez Problems, seemingly broke his nose, but Martinez began to make adjustments and KO'ed him in the 11th.

Sergio didn't look his best but he was still able to make the necessary adjustments to get the w. Props to darren barker for putting up a competitive fight and major props to Andy lee. He looked beast in there last night.

Sergio didnt look his best because of what Barker was doing. I always said the way to beat Sergio was to get close to him, as his inside game is not all that developed at this point.

But Sergio dug deep, made the adjustments, and KTFO Barker!:yep

He behaved like a champion and did what he had to do to keep hisd title. Barker from rounds 1-8 looked like an elite fighter and performed like one. That version of Barker would give Sturm, Pirog, and any of the other title holders problems too.

Props but you realise Barker deserves more credit for doing as well as he did against the best MW out there. Sergio got the win but he didn't look good.....compared to his more recent performances against better opposition. Barker "not knowing how to lose" is not a bailed reason for the struggles he had with Barker....Barker struggled with far lesser foes than Sergio, fighting only in England.

Sergio got the W and was dominant, although he had to work a lot harder this time out. I believe it was a mix of things that resulted in this performance. I think there is some merrit to what Lederman said, Sergio trained down to his opposition. He was fighting an unknown fighter that really did nothing for his career. I also was getting the feeling that he was trying to look vulnerable, doing just enough to win every round. Had he blown Barker out in the fashion he has been winning, people still wouldn't want to fight him. However after this performance, I think some of those names may be a little more interested.

Mayweather may just be the interested party. We'll see what happens in the aftermath of this performance.

I agree....Segio overlooked the kid and expected an easy night....he had to dig deep for this win and luckily he got the TKO.....we can still see Floyd vs Martinez next yr!:happy next best thing to pac vs Floyd.

I was going to make this thread myself. Sergio didn't perform as good as we'd thought, but he gutted that win out and fought a guy who stylistically cause more problem than expected.
I could see a lot of fighters getting discouraged in his position, but I knew he would push up the intensity and get the job done

Sergio martinez got exposed for what he is a good fighter but way over hyped no way p4p list mayweather and pacquiao would both destroy him even at 154 let alone the 150 he says he is willing to drop to.

I think Sergio's chin and general durability are questionable. There were some moments in Barker fight were i saw him particularly fragile.

However, you gotta admit that despite not being someone who can absorb lots of battle damage Martinez does have a lot of heart.

He seems to have the ability to bring out his second wind in the championship rounds and summon a final burst of energy when you think he is getting gassed.

He did it with Pavlik and now he did it with Barker. I think this ability of his will continue to win him many close, tough fights.

Word. Barker fought like a trooper and gets my respect too. He fought a very intelligent fight. He fought defensively, but laid some leather too. But dayum, Sergio didn't even land flush and still did alot of damage enough to end the fight in style.
