Thoughts? To be perfectly honest Drozzy, the only thought that comes to my mind is ASS WHOOPIN'! Rubio is a pretty big step up over David's previous opposition. I realize Ayala was a former "world title challenger," but it was Abraham he fought, and Abraham blatantly ducked Zuniga to make the Ayala fight. Ayala's big claim to fame was a draw with Sergio Mora, and Mora went on to prove that the draw was something of a fluke. Rubio is a step in the right direction. Let's see how he does in that one before we throw him to the proverbial wolves.
Ishe Smith calls Canadian super prospect David Lemieux "overrated". Says he'll go to Montreal to fight him. Why not? I'll call GYM and ask. - Lou DiBella That's after the Gates disappointment. Smith hadn't agreed to the 2-week notice, but would have taken it with some longer prep time / heads-up. Thing is, it seems David is not fighting in February (Décarie to be the main eventer @ Fast & Furious on 11 Feb)... according to this: http://legrandclub.rds.ca/profils/MonsieurBoxeRichardCloutier/posts/97395 Still hoping for Lemieux-Smith on 11 Feb, whatever. On the flip side, who the hell within the top MWs is actually willing to go toe to toe with him?! An early KO of Rubio will do absolutely ****all for him, you're right. :rofl Both his manager & trainer are talking about WBC championship bouts... even Lemieux mentions Martinez and Pirog in interviews. "I'll be ready, at 100%, no matter who it is.... Martinez, Pirog, or another guy." I think David is ready to go to Canada's bum to play his WBC number 2 contender card. Good point, Maravilla hits hard. I just think he'd have his hands full with David in rounds 3-4-5, if David survives the first two that is. David can cut a ring, you know. He spars quite frequently with Pascal, who moves pretty well himself. Again, it just baffles me that GYM would sacrifice David to the boxing gods by talking about a Martinez fight. Michel must be TOTALLY CONVINCED that Martinez will end up dropping the belt. Say he annihilates Rubio and gets to be Zbik's mando... would you consider him ready for Martinez should he get past Zbik without a hickup?
Maravilla's footwork is too good. He'll dance around Lemieux all night, horrible style match up for Lemieux.
If only Chavez Jr had balls........... we'd see how David's footwork has improved over the years. As I stated in my first post, I too think footwork & handspeed are two of Sergio's biggest attributes that would trouble Lemieux. We just need to see what he can do vs a real mover.
Lemieux should target someone like Craig McEwan in his next bout. If he doesn't fight someone who will jab and dance all night he'll become unstuck when he faces a top boxer. McEwan won't go near him though I reckon, unless there is some form of title on the line. Basically Lemieux needs to fight someone who will frustrate him somewhat. Someone he needs to chase around the ring but not a top fighter either as that could mean a loss for him.
Ishe Smith? The guy talked **** about Lemieux, said he wanted the fight but not with only a 2-3 week notice... we might see it this spring. :smoke Then maybe HBO would push a Lemieux-Guerrero fight on the undercard of a Pirog main event, for the winner to fight Pirog late in 2011?! I'm dreamin'. :think
If it were up to me, David's 2011 fight schedule would look something like this. Marco Rubio (experienced orthodox boxer/puncher, reasonably heavy hands) David Lopez (been in the Ring top 10 at MW for years. Seasoned, well rounded, 6' 2" southpaw with 16 straight wins.) Peter Manfredo (good name value) Sergio Mora (Good name value, awkward, herky-jerky style) A year like that would convince most people that Lemiuex is ready. No "champ" could avoid him without being accused of blatant ducking.
Nice sched, Boo. I like the Lopez matchup... hasn't lost in over 5 yrs, unsure if he'd want a risky fight. Manfredo however I think would decline the offer. Is Mora ranked as a MW @ WBC/WBO? Haven't checked yet.
Mora's ranking doesn't really matter. Mora IS a middleweight. He only has 3 fights at 154. His record at 154 is 1-1-1. He's better at 160.
lemieux is a good puncher, his technic (well he couldn't show much because he kos people so quick). all in all he won't never be a star. he will be a contender, probably a good one, but he won't make it big. too small, his arms too short, his power is there, but aisde from that. dont see a jab, nothing, only hooks. not enough for martinez, sturm or pw.
If one thinks Andre Ward is a great inside fighter... can't wait to see what they say when David neutralizes Rubio from the inside landing uppercuts and hooks. The kid will take his recipe to the big leagues, trust me.
Lemieux is too good a prospect to be thrown to the wolves.Martinez is all wrong for the kid-too fast and hits too hard.I am surprised someone like Anber would even think such thoughts at this point.Give him another year to mature at the least.
That is ignorant at best. He might not be an ATG , but he masters every punches in the book. Including the jab.
