Roy is insanely fun to watch against those bums he fought. But watching SRL vs Hagler, Hearns vs Hagler, RJJ vs Hopkins I, and RJJ vs Glen Johnson give me my perspective. Hagler was able to land on SRL and able to walk through Hearns power shots. RJJ looked boring and tentative vs Hopkins who was not Hopkins yet. I believe prime Hagler is slightly better than green Hopkins. RJJ did not take pressure well against Johnson. I know it was post prime but MW Jones is pre prime and much less experienced.
He was able to land on welterweight great SRL AFTER Ray slowed down, and that version of SRL doesn't trouble ANY version of Hops or Toney. The B-hop fighting RIGHT NOW would smack down any welterweight you care to name. ODLH and Tito tried to pull the same **** on an 'old' Nard that Duran, SRL and Hearns did to Hagler, and look what happened to them. RJJ at MW doesn't slow down and hits twice as hard or better than SRL, and he's at least AS fast and even more elusive. That version of Hopkins is generally thought of as 'green' ONLY because of the RJJ fight, and how he looked in that fight has a lot more to do with RJJ than it did with Bernard being 'green'. You're talking about RJJ dealing with Johnson's pressure. I'm not sure you realize that RJJ was shot in that fight, and nothing that happened in the ring that night has any bearing on any discussion about peak RJJ. You do know that, right?
Massive Hagler fan here. In a 12-round fight, I would slightly favour Jones to win, because of his style and speed. But saying it would be a piece of cake and Hagler would have no chance is laughable.
