I seen these two spar once. It was befor I was a member and at a time when other great teachers and there fighters were still operating out of Fraziers. My pal was a Jimmy Young sparring partner and friend who I worked with. We got to talkin boxing and said let's get outta here and see what's going on at the gym. We clocked out drove down and Marvis and Bert were grunting and laying into each other. If my memory serves me rite Marvis was controlling things. Mind you this was when I believe Benton had Marvis

Bert was probably pretty young at that time. I really would have liked to see Cooper take a run at the division clean off from drugs and focused. Drugs screwed him up but that is an old story. IYO did Marvis have enough pop to hurt Cooper?

Marvis under George Benton was a much better fighter than he was under his father. His father screwed up his style. But yes Marvis had enough pop to keep him honest. Marvis was also much thicker in person. I'm a pretty big guy and I was in Marvis house about 6 yrs ago and you could tell he was still thick. Cooper was a nice guy but kinda a scary guy in a way that you know the man didn't mind trouble. About 5 yrs ago? I knew a guy that shared a room with him in a recovery house. Think he's sober now.

Thanks I`m from Coatesville about 40 miles west. Cooper was a rough dude. He semed to have a good nature he always cracked me up during interviews. That look he gave his opponent during the instructions was simple as hell. Just a simple ass grin. He copied that from Joe Frazier but more extreme.
