I may be wrong but perhaps Ross Purrity, put Wlad and Morrison on ***** street for 1 thing Maybe Nate Tubbs who smashed Sanders with 1 left
Not quite for the classic forum but Tye Fields fits this bill. I saw him sparring in the US. Big strong lump but geez he just throws his massive arms in the direction of the opponent and he just couldn't transfer the power he generated.
Ruddock had bad delivery? He snuck his smash in with lots of technique plenty of times and caught guys off guard, resulting in devastating KO's. Thats hardly a Shavers like finish where he looked like he couldn't club a rabbit to death at times.
With his opponent against the ropes and not sticking his beard out like Frazier, George Foreman quite often fits the description as far as getting his man out of there, IMO. In Zaire, quite a few moments Foreman looks like nothing but a klutz. He could whack at Ali's stationary body, of course, but he could do hardly anything but swing fruitlessly at the African night when trying to reach the head. This was not just loose ropes. His effort against Chuvalo is as impressive as it is disappointing. After landing a perfectly timed left hook that sends Chuvalo crashing into the ropes, he is barely able to connect on the covered-up Chuvalo's beard again, resorting to banging on the body, chasing Chuvalo around the ring with a jab, and actually missing his final swipes at the Chuvalo head when Mercante steps in. He has Lyle hurt and covering against the ropes in two different instances of their slugfest, but, again, is unable to penetrate a tall-stanced opponent with a high guard on the ropes. His final, successful barrage on a finished Lyle on the ropes is against a defenseless man who could do no more than corner himself there, with no guard and slumping forward. Stand tall with the hands up when hurt against Foreman, add a little movement, and you'll probably survive, making his delivery sometimes look like sh** in the process. In general, I think it is almost contradictory to say a fighter has massive power (strength is another story) but sh** delivery. I would say some massive hitters, like Foreman, sometimes swung amateurishly, but in general had a sound delivery, hence their shocking power. In this vein, Rocky Graziano had massive power, but less than stellar accuracy, and I think he deserves a mention.
Exactly, man was he lazy. He had a great opportunity vs Gomez, and hurt him i thought at one point, but damn well sleepwalked. He was taking Gomez's bombs often and well, yet didn't ask similar such questions back.
Yes. Bad delivery. probably the biggest telegrapher of throwing the left hook of his the sport has had in a long time. It's a punch that will only work when his opponent is stationary and Ruddock has his feet planted. If you went to his fights, everyone in the arena saw what he was going to do before he'd throw that hook 8-10 times a round.
It was, and in the Hatton and Ryan fights also. Really good fight that..... Ricky was lucky that the fight wasn't stopped with that cut. Lately though - for the past couple of years, his timing was crap. I'd have taken him to beat Khan though when the fight was possible, mid-2007ish.
At heavyweight: Jameel McCline: massive power but he was so stiff and hesitant that he hardly landed anything of consequence. When he did, though, he almost always hurt guys. Tough guys as well. Peter, Arreola, Mago and so on. He really shook Peter up, after Wlad laid flush right hands into his grill all night long. Travis Walker: another huge puncher (reputedly knocked Vitali down in sparring) and almost always hurts anyone he lands on: Arreola, Pulev, Adamek. When he does though, he turns into a complete mong, winging shots left, right and centre, gassing, then getting KOed. Vladimir Virchis: said to be a huge puncher (though I haven't seen much evidence of it) but is so slow and oafish that he hardly landed on anyone. Alexander Ustinov: see above. Leif Larsen: looks to have serious power in his fists, but is unfortunately about the only man to make Foreman look like Ivan Calderon.
Bonecrusher's right hand against Ruddock is one of the hardest punches I've ever seen land. Dude could turn his right over something fierce.
