Sure he said he wants a fight in the HW division Who would you like to see him in with? Id love to see Bones vs Gonzaga
Ron Lyle told me that Contenders are paired up against someone just below them, until that Contender breaks into the top 10.. Where every dog has it's day. In order to get JJ a title shot, it will take good matchmaking.. 1) I'd send in a guinea pig like Schaub. 2) After that it's Shane Carwin, who will be coming off neck surgery and a long layoff. Carwin is very dangerous, but not a complete fighter. Carwin or Werdum. 3) After winning these two fights at HW, JJ has earned a spot in the top 4 of the division. I'm sure he would jump at the opportunity to fight Big Nog, but Brown Pride and Frank Mir are real threats.. I would pair him with Brown Pride, as he is a plodding, predictable, easy target whose biggest strength is cardio. *Frank Mir is probably too seasoned, too much of a live body for JJ to overcome. Daniel C will lose a 3rd decision, and this fight is a few years too late for Josh Barnett to win. 4) Title Shot- I truly don't know how he beats a massive, talented, and coordinated HW in JDS. Prediction- JJ lands a handful of clean strikes before JDS pushes him up against the cage, and sends Bones Jones' head into the crowd with a single collar tie and uppercut. JDS KO1
I dont see the point of having Jones fight anybody outside the top 5 , one fight and then a title shot should be the aim for the UFC IMO Cain Velasquez would be my first choice
It depends on what it is really. If its a stepping stone to a title shot then someone like Mir or Carwin makes sense. If its more like the Irvin-Silva fight i.e. a novelty for free television, then could probably get away with feeding someone like Rothwell to him.
