Baring in mind that was several years before Tyson Fury became the Tyson Fury we all know and love today, and John McDermott has never won a British title, do you seriously think that is a better headline fight than Kelly/Avanyesan?
Good test for Kelly, hell of a step up. I think there was a bit of an over reaction to his draw with Robinson.
It’s a great fight, one I’m not sure Kelly comes through. Absolutely no problem with it headlining, just obviously shouldn’t be at a venue like the o2!
yeh its a good fight but i am going to tape for after, and watch the pitter and richards fight. Not because i think its a better fight but imo i think its important for channel 5 to get viewers so they can put more cards on for free and not sky sports subscribtion free
This is exactly it. Take away the fact its at the o2 its a great fight. Eddie booked the arena for Chisora vs Usyk and will be able to break even on around 4/5k.
Boxing promotor puts on fight at venue. Then errr promotes it to put bums on seats. Even if they get 10000 in its a good attendence. Whats the obsession with venues. Probably has a good relationship with O2 and empty on that date any way so win win. Both fighters will also be paid whats due and on time.
Why are you judging the quality of a headline fight based on the venue? Someone said Kelly/Avanyesan was a poor headline fight and I pointed out that it’s much better than the headline fights we got several years ago I.e Fury/McDermott. If the Kelly fight sells well would you then agree that it’s a quality headline fight?
Meanwhile when Warren puts a headline fight as Bowen vs Cacace or Reid vs Foster (who are both outside the top 100 in the world), the Warren fan boys tell us it’s a great fight.
You don't get huge World Title fights at the York Hall mate and it is very rare for this fight with the profile to be at such a large arena. Gut reaction is a good support fight at a large venue or a Copper Box Fight mate. Will be absolutely astonished if the dreaded Black Curtains don't make an appearance inside the arena to hide about 70% empty seats
Commendable mate but you do know they cannot tell if you watched it or not unless you are in the Barb sample of 12,000 TV viewers.
