Eddie Hearn ‏@EddieHearn @mattmacklin will face WBC International champ & no.4 Jorge Sebastian Heiland on Aug 30 in Dublin in official @***** eliminator. Eddie just tweeted this, seems like they are going to go the WBC route with Macklin which seems sensible as Cotto might drop down to 154 and Macklin could maybe be in line to fight for the vacant title? What does everyone think of this, anybody know much of Heiland? :think
Gimme fight for his first under the Matchroom banner. Every-time Heiland has fought outside of Argentina he's lost. Easy money.
Undercard announced: Anthony Joshua v Yaroslav Zavorotnyi (David Price's last opponent). Kal Yafai v Luke Wilton Spike O'Sullivan v Anthony Fitzgerald.
Dont know much about Joshuas opponent but looking at boxrec (no chance to research further as yet) he has only been stopped twice so that could be a good statement if Anthony were to do so. Conversly if he didnt stop him but went the distance, this wouldnt be bad either.
the most exciting fight on paper for this bill is Ftizgerald V O'sullivan. Then Probably Joshua. Macklin may pull in the crowd but I expect a one sided affair.
Agreed, would be good to see AJ get a few more rounds under his belt as I think everyone is curious to see how he'll fare going in to the later rounds. I think he has a questionable defence as it is which would only get more sloppy as a fight progressed.
Yep constantly finishing people off early in fights when learning the pro game only raises questions in fans minds nowadays and really to give himself the confidence he can last the distance he really needs to experience it. You will never discover and therefore get chance to rectify flaws with too many fights against opposition who cant take you the distance-as we have all seen with Price etc
I believe it's an eliminator between any of the top 15 in the rankings. This isn't a final eliminator though, so the winner of this isn't mandatory :good
Yeah think if relying on mandatory shot with the WBC you may be left waiting a while. Last one was Sept 2012. Interesting that Martin Murray is #1, could that be the next fight should Macklin win although it seems Lee is being lined up.
Good point, if Cotto vacated and went down to light middle again, Murray v Macklin for the WBC title would be a great match up.
