Matthew macklin - will he box again?

    personally i think he should retire, he had a great career but i believe its time to hang the gloves up

    Yep...if he is to box on a couple of quick fights like this, agsinst guys at okanes level, in quick rapid fire succession, all need to be decisive wins, mind, to try to recapture his appetite and sharpness.

    Any problems - he should go for good.

    He should fight again at a decent level to see if he still has it.


    If he loses on decision or gets knocked out then retire for good.


    I personally don't think he deserves a world title shot against Andy Lee so soon but with his promoter i could see him getting it.

    Surely the point if his present predicament is precisely that he doesn't " still have it". Surely that much was obvious from the Heiland loss?
    Not right now anyway.

    Surely he needs see if he can REBUILD back to high level, by trying to sharpen his skills against safer opponents, whilel answering the tough question for himself:
    "Do I still have an appetite for the hard grind?"

    I hope he retires, that was a bad KO last time out, he looks miles away from world level and he has said himself he struggles to "get up" for the type of fights he would surely have to be in if he returns.

    That is the key factor here. If he can't get up for what he considers "little fights" that are beneath him, then he should forget about continuing boxing.

    He needs to wise up on that issue and make the right decision.

    If he is not prepared for a long haul campaign, fighting guys like the guys andy Lee has been facing (Horta, Fitzy, Jackson etc) then he should retire now.

    It really is as blunt as that for Matthew now.


    On the plus side, and keeping with the Andy Lee theme, we can see from Andys story just how bizarre boxing can be. A world of extremes. A short while ago whoda thunk Andy Lee would be a World Champion?
    It is possible to take inspiration from that.... But has Natthew got Andys hunger appetite and determination...not to mention luck?

    Yeah the KO was pretty brutal. It's the kind of KO that looks like a career-ended/the end of a fighter.

    Matt tried to play the old "Exhaustion" card, but it was definitely a brutal finish.

    Is he still with Jamie Moore? Or have they parted company now?

    Maybe all the current activity among the domestic middles will nudge Matthew into making a decision, one way or the other....

    It's ok to box once or twice a year in one given when you are resting any injury etc.
    But to make it your normal practice 4 or 5 years in a row is suicide.
    You can't do anything on a part time basis like that and expect to keep your skills at world class level. You just can't.
    IMO this had a lot to do with Matthews downfall.

    Spoke to Matt last week and I think he'll fight again. Personally I think his best days are far behind him now but if he wants to carry on fair play to him.
