tbh kos i always felt it was as simple enough to just say that, but i am always open to persuasion if the argument is right, but nothing i have ever seen from floyd, added to any comments on here have persuaded me as yet. Floyd is a great fighter in this era, but not an atg as was ali.
in terms of boxing ability and talent i think they are pretty much equal, but ali was more than just boxing
ali fought the top guys, floyd has built a good record for himself, but it is not comparable with ali fighting in his prime. And with regard to ali being more than just boxing, tbh i am not that interested in any exploits or activities outside the ring where this is concerned.
i was just talking in terms of pure talent and ability, which i think they are equals and are just as versatile as each other, you cant compare them on achievements or who they have fought until floyd has retired
Ali's best wins: George Foreman Sonny Liston x2 Floyd Patterson x2 Joe Frazier x2 Ken Norton x2 Floyd's best wins: Genaro Hernandez Diego Corrales Jesus Chavez Jose Luis Castillo x2 Zab Judah Oscar De La Hoya Ricky Hatton There really isn't any comparison to make with their records (plus the fact Ali has two other ATG's on his record in Archie Moore and Bob Foster), considering Ali beat arguably 3 of the top 10 heavyweights of all time - Foreman, Frazier, Liston - and Floyd hasn't beat anyone of that stature. You also have to add in that most of Ali's biggest wins were when he was out of his prime. Ali did have some debatable decisions (Norton 3 springs to mind) in his career, but then Floyd has one in the 1st Castillo fight and some people (not me) thought the De La Hoya fight was close. Ali beat the best heavyweights of the 60's and 70's (when the heavyweight division was at it's peak) and Floyd has some good wins at lightweight and a carefully guided career throughout the weights. Floyd's just running his mouth to gain publicity, I don't think even he is that stupid to think he is better than the Ali's or Ray Robinson's of the world.
the retired thing is fair enough, but even if floyd fights and beats manny, in terms of being above ali in terms of ATG, i still dont think he would rank.
Every fight you have listed for ali was a genuine risk fight for Ali, whereas Floyd's list is full of good operators, but none stand out and say to me apart maybe from ODLH that he had to put everything on the line against the top ****ing dogs all the time

Floyd is better than Ali though :good His record suggests otherwise and it is well withing reason that he isn't considered anywhere near Ali if you was to draw up a list of the greatest fighters however if you was to ask me who was the better Boxer between the two then Mayweather would be as far ahead as Ali is in regards to greatness. Floyd in all honestly will never ever reach Ali in terms of greatness. Not only would he need wins against the likes of Mosely, Pacquiao, Williams he should have been counting wins against the likes of a prime Cotto, Margharito, Clottey, Cintron, Tzysu and the like from 140 up. Boxing is nowhere near as Mainstream now as it was back in Ali's day. That was a day when the whole world pretty much stopped to watch him fight. Cinema's would be packed to the rafters with people watching Closed Circuit viewings if they had no televisions. Nobody will eclipse the likes of SRR/Ali because boxing will never ever get to that stage of unparamounted public obsession/interest again. All Floyd is doing here, is looking to sell himself and the fight a little better in the hope that a minority will watch him fight (what is supposedly his hardest fight), watch him look good and take it upon themselves to believe his claims
Agree with this statement. In what respect is floyd better than ali in your opinion?? Boxing ability may be close, but ali still wins this for me too
