The end of the Cold War And Floyd on the outside looking in..His only options left will be Dibella fighters !
Really don't understand why Floyd and his camp felt the need to air their support for Schaefer. I'm thinking about what Oscar said in one of his recent interviews, how some Haymon-advised fighters who were in their cards were not actually under contract with GBP. If this is true, isn't this on Schaefer? Having allowed such things to happen under his watch at GBP, Schaefer is either of two things: he was plain and simple outhustled on the negotiating table by Haymon, or worse, made side-deals with Haymon that benefited him personally but not GBP, a company he was the CEO of. By my reckoning, some people overrate Richard Schaefer way too much. He was never in the class of Don King or Bob Arum. Lou DiBella is probably better than him. GBP was handed to him by Oscar with the muscle of HBO firmly behind the company, all because of the star power of dela Hoya. Schaefer did not build GBP from the ground up to what it is now, it is the might of HBO that made GBP able to compete with its biggest rival Top Rank and along the way become the major player in boxing that it is now. Of course, this was during the time when GBP and HBO were more cozy with each other and Top Rank was getting what Arum would consider second-class citizen treatment from then-HBO president Ross Greenburg.
So does this mean that Mayweather will not be fighting GB-promoted fighters such as Khan & Maidana or even Canelo?? I'm curious what Stephen Espinoza thinks of all this. He clearly realizes that there are only so many opponents out there that Mayweather can sell as legit opponents. Without a legit opponent, I could see Mayweather's ppv falling by the wayside. Also, B-Hop has been strongly aligned with both Schaefer and GB for quite some time. Where does he go from here??
Void wants to fight the woman he beat up in a rematch on PPV and it will probably sell. Void will fight bare knuckled and the woman will use 24 oz. gloves................
Sure floyd will come runnin back to GBP or top rank when he realises the only person left to fight is golovkin
Schaefer was head of the company that put on the 2 biggest ppvs of all time. Has dibella king or arum done that? Who cleaned up the lingerie photo debacle? Shaefer! Who promoted the Mayweather v Canelo fight while oscar was in rehab? Schaefer!
Please tell me you are not serious. The two biggest PPV's, Oscar-Floyd and Floyd-Canelo, could have been promoted by Murad Muhammad and it would have made absolutely no difference! What did Schaefer do, that nobody else could have done, for those two fights? Those fights sold themselves. More importantly, did Schaefer play a part in developing the fighters of those events into becoming the huge stars that they were that made those fights the big tickets that they were? You could only say that for Canelo, and only to a minor extent! Canelo was developed as a big-time attraction primarily in Mexico, and GBP took him in as a made fighter already. As for those fights getting made and whatever Schaefer's negotiating skills played a part in all of them, of course GBP should have closed those deals! Oscar was the #1 name in boxing fighting Floyd, Forrest Gump could have closed that deal. Canelo and Floyd, again, not because of Schaefer's savvy, it was a no-brainer deal! Schaefer was lucky he was with GBP when HBO propped them up with preferred dates! Wow, I just couldn't believe someone will fling slogans like these to try and defend Richard Schaefer's tenure at GBP. But but but, what about the two biggest PPV's of all time... :rofl
Wow did you really just ask of King or Arum have ever put on a big PPV ? How long have you followed the sport to ask such a question ?atsch
Obviously he did enough to convince those guys to be promoted by GBP for those events and that it was his company and not any other that would rake in the immense profits from them. And I'd point out that Top Rank expressed no interest whatsoever in Oscar-Floyd due to the belief there was no money to be made in that fight. Finally, I think it's safe to say that Golden Boy had a thing or two to do with the promotion of Alvarez in the United Sates that made him such a draw that a fight with Mayweather was an obvious slam dunk. Whine that he was a made man in Mexico all you want, but he wasn't selling 2 million in the US without the suport of GBP.
What was uniquely in Schaefer's skillset that helped in promoting Canelo in the US that is absent in any other promoter operating in the US? Top Rank could have done the same thing with him, heck DiBella would have done as well. What Schaefer had uniquely going for him compared to the other promoters was his ability to bend over backwards too much for Haymon and Mayweather, to the long-term detriment of his own company, in the process adding further to Haymon's infamous clout within the boxing community.
It won't affect Floyd's choice of fights. He can probably still get Khan, Porter, Maidana, or Thurman. The issue for Floyd and SHO is how this impacts PPV sales. We know that Golden Boy and Top Rank know how to promote big fights. That's why they have the majority of top talent out there. Al Haymon is good at negotiating with television networks, but he's not going to be out there selling PPV's. Can they get it all together in time for September?
mayweather "promotions" drops their promoter? :rofl thats like the owner of wal-mart going Sears to buy something shows you how much of a joke that "promotion" company is
