Arguably the most versatile and accurate puncher in the sport of boxing, has an "average" offense?

Sure. Something tells me the people who say these things, have no idea the variety of punches Mayweather has to be efficient/good with to keep such percentages. Most guys have a "couple of signature punches" that you really need to watch out for. Floyd literally can beat you with a variety of punches and a variety of offensive styles.

He's anything but average. Totally disagree and I'll say it straight up: If you think Mayweather has average offense, you don't know ****. And if you thought he was going to sit there and trade with the younger, stronger, and heavier Canelo, you're even a bigger idiot that doesn't know **** about boxing strategy.

You can go back to previous posts, and anybody with a brain was talking about how Floyd would utilize his footwork, avoid extended clinches (big guys are strong), get his punches off first and out box the kid. He was never going to go in there and bang with him. And it would have been idiotic to do so on his part if he did.

LOL insane greateness? Prime Mosley,Oscar, Ray, Whitaker, Wright all beat him.

Roy Jones went almost 2 years without losing a single round, he was a GREAT fighter, and he wasn't boring, was actually thrilling to watch because he literally dismantled opponents.
Great, floyd can make tomato cans miss punches, yet he still can't even hurt them! LOL It's a fukin sparring match, he has no killer instinct. He only tries to win as safely as possible.

I see what you are saying, he's not as interesting as SRL or Hearns, but the subtleties in his offense are such that he beats everyone he fights. His offense, whatever it is, is exceptional even if it doesn't appear so.

He wins based on his defense though. Think about it, if he was hit more, he wouldn't even be throwing his one punch at time as much

You just don't get it Money is still going strong fighting in a weight class he shouldn't be in.He has fought the #1 fighter at 154 that's bigger and younger and put on a boxing clinic at 36. And know people want him to move up again to fight GGG if that is not a testament of his greatness don't know what is.

A prime Floyd likely outboxes a prime Mosely and Oscar. They would probably miss and get countered all night, just like their past prime versions. Whitaker would probably be a close fight. Wright was just too big for Floyd in their primes. So, the edge goes to Winky in that one. Ray Robinson too. He holds his own in every one of these fights, though. But, P4P he without a doubt ranks higher than Oscar, Shane, and Wright.

As for Roy, I'm a big fan of a Prime Roy, as well. But, Roy did/does not have Floyd's longevity. Floyd is dominating a young man's game at nearly 40 years of age. This is not a common thing.

Above average, but not brilliant, at least not at the higher weights.

Very good counter-puncher, and accurate, crisp one-punch offensive boxer.

But very clearly, his greatness is much more rooted in defence than offence.

While his offence is overshadowed by his defence Mayweather has a very accurate offence and is one of the most accurate boxers with great timing of any era.

Watching him fight Canelo he has to be the most impressive 36 year old boxer I have ever seen.

Jesus Wept!!! As some have said, average power but as good an offense as any fighter out there. The fact he isn't a massive puncher makes him even more remarkable.

PBF has an excellent offense. The guy can fight at all ranges with great accuracy and a high ring IQ. WTF is the thread starter talking about? Threads like this really separate novice boxing fans from astute ones. Average offensive fighter?:rofl:nut:patsch GTFOH!!! People like the thread starter can't see the subtle brilliance in PBF's offensive approach all they think offense is work rate and power.:-(

Floyd has good offense. Its just that he's very economic with his punches. He does only enough in order to outpoint his opponents. I can see why people aren't impressed with his offense as much as they are with his defense because he lacks a killer Instinct. He has all the ability in the world to unleash on his opponents yet chooses to just play it safe.
