That is not the only way to call someone out. Showing this does not eliminate all other possible ways of doing so. Saying "I want to fight Mayweather" is plenty IMO. Saying he is changing the subject anytime someone mentions his name is plenty for me, since he is essentially calling Mayweather a coward. Soon, Cotto will not need Mayweather at all.

Your assertion has nothing to do with anything. You are talking to me, and I have not said Mayweather should call him out. So why would it matter that you're asking "What has Cotto done for Mayweather to call him out?" I am not saying he should. I am saying that he should respond. Call their bluff if it's true that Cotto doesn't want to fight him and is simply saynig it.

Cotto and Mosley did over 400k. That is certainly a good number. Hatton's drawing power is unknown pre defeat.

The point being? The event is bigger than the personal "business" feelings. To top it all off? They wanted Cotto at 140 when he was less well known and with Arum. Were Boxing better run? We wouldnt even have to listen to Floyds BS.

Now as Cotto improves and becomes a real challenge, Floyd wants no part. Its' all BS!! Its not a championship mentality. Its a scared mentality.

 

Floyd may not have a huge FAN base, but he has the status (lineal welterweight champ and widely recognized 'p4p' number one) to make fights that fans in general want to watch. Oscar and Rick have lots of fans, but would Oscar have gotten those 2 million PPV buys JUST fighting anyone? They wanted to see him fight Floyd because they wanted to see him beat Floyd. Hatton's fans wouldnt have FLOWN TO VEGAS from the UK just to see Hatton fight any other big name. Cotto doesn't have that kind of fan base, and neither does Floyd. Floyd doesn't have the potential to just all of the sudden have milions and millions more fans. Cotto does. And when Cotto DOES get those fans, they will come out in force to see him fight FLOYD.

Floyd doesn't want to do business with Bob Arum, so Floyd would rather fight Miguel Cotto with him and Miguel running the show. Of course I doubt Cotto is going to start his own promotions house, but it wouldn't surprise me if he signs with say, Golden Boy - who Floyd obviously has no problems doing business with1

 

These days, on this level, Floyd obviously sees all of his fights from now on, as big money paydays, and Floyd merely wants Cotto to build himself up to where a Floyd Cotto fight would be yet another big money payday for both fighters.

He's wanting Cotto to win and build his aura and career a while longer, and get himself up to a higher level before Floyd fights him, to where it'll be a big money payday. Floyd don't want to fight Cotto prematurely. He don't want to pick that apple before its ripe, to to speak. He knows a fight, now, would do well, but if they wait and let Cotto continue to build himself, the fight will be so much bigger down the road.

Sounds like Floyd is making good business sense out of this. I can't see anything wrong with that reasoning.

 

Floyd has a ton of money already, he should be fighting for legacy at this point, and he's holding back the division with wrestling and then fighting Oscar(and maybe a rematch with Hatton next, making a fight with Cotto late 09 at the earliest). He hasn't said anything to the effect that indicated a clear desire to fight Cotto later either(and his actions certainly indicate otherwise), just vague statements. And right now, the fight would still be a huge money fight and very meaningful. Down the line it might be bigger and even more meaningful, but Cotto or Floyd could also lose before that, taking away some of that luster. Cotto would be the more likely to lose, simply because he's going to be the more active fighter of the two, and he's probably going to be fighting something like Gomez-Margarito/Cintron winner-Mayorga or Gomez-Margarito/Cintron winner-Mosley/Judah winner this year, while Floyd is only fighting Oscar in 08.

In a nutshell, it makes more business sense to me to make this fight now, and it makes sense that if you call yourself the creme de la creme, that you prove it against the best opposition.

 

A sensible response Mayweather is no Ducker he fought Corrales when many thought Chico would walk right through him, Im not saying his resume is perfect and im just as pissed of as the next boxing fan that hes doin this pointless rematch and not fighting Cotto but the issue is with him and Arum and he did say he wanted to fight Cotto.
