Protect yourself at all times.... especially after a ref has said 'box on' or in this case 'let's go'. If issues were given a ranking, this would be a P4P non-issue.

Anyway, Floyd should have just headbutted him. Or would that not be okay?

I think it was a DQ. It was a dirty move my Mayweather well Ortiz was trying to say stop elbowing me cuz I'm going to head but you and the ref lost control at the fight

    DQ

100% this and only this. Thread/

That's he 1st rule you learn as a fighter, ingrained from the beginning. Ortiz had been fighting/competing damn near his whole life. That rule is basically muscle memory in his brain. He knew what he was doing, knew he was on the verge of getting undressed and wiped down, and wanted out. Kid was always a quitter, which is ironic considering his heritage has firmly established itself as being hands down the gold standard for toughness, resiliency, and warrior mentality.

I gotta say, I know punches have more impact when a fighter is not braced to take them, but Mayweather for a fleeting moment must have been possessed by the punching power of Mike Tyson. Knock me down with a feather.... fist.

Lol. Well said. If memory serves me though(probably doesn't) Ortiz pretty much knew what he was doing, what Mayweather was going to do, and let it happen, pretty much intentionally not bracing for it and turning a blind eye. 100% biatch.

It was an unsportsmanlike headbutt by a Ortiz that much is clear. Cortez did waive them in to box with hand signals and said "lets go" instead of "box". Tensions were high, Testosterone was boiling, IV Fluids were pumping, and Mayweather paid Ortiz back with an unsportsmanlike 1,2 to the jaw. Protect yourself at all times. It should not have been a DQ, but it was a ChickenSh*t way to KO someone, nonetheless. Being the face of boxing at the time, to me, it made Mayweather look more like an A-hole then usual.

The only fight I can think of that’s remotely similar is Jessie Vargas vs Trenton Titsworth. Trenton kissed him on the neck and responded by hitting him during the break. No DQ but Trenton was docked 2 points for kissing lol

He's a really "Vague" ref when he wants to be.
Have to bring his refereeing in the Hatton V Floyd fight as (to me) it seemed like Hatton was fighting Cortez as well as Floyd for the firts 5 rounds...I know floyd would have beaten hatton anyway but that was crap refereeing...

Ortiz was giving mayweather a bit of trouble, roughing him him a bit like maidana. But he quit mentally as usual with the headbutt and kissing.

F.uck him, bust up floyds lip with a headbutt. It was the least he deserved. No DQ

The headbutt was blatant enough to have been a DQ in of itself.

He already hugged and literally kissed him as Cortez took the point off him. What was Floyd supposed to do, let him suck his junk at center ring? Given the circumstances I don't think any boxing fan would say "he shouldn't have thrown a punch" let alone that he should have been DQ'd.
