Poor Vikki. Getting assaulted by Jake, the Mafia, and now Floyd.

To the degree they do today? No. You had to make weight "on the day of the fight." Yes, they rehydrated but not even close to the degree they do today. They did not have the recovery time to pull that. Again, this idea that Lamotta was "too big and too strong" for Mayweather is absolute fantasy. LaMotta wasn't exactly huge himself, and would get absolutely pummeled by a modern middleweight champion.

The man was out-boxed by far lesser men than Floyd Mayweather Jr. His "status" is because of his single win over Robinson, a major upset. It is the equivalent of Buster Douglass beating Mike Tyson. That's it. And let's remember, Robinson put some serious beatings on that man while being outweighed by 20 pounds in every fight afterward. Maybe SRR took LaMotta lightly the 1st fight?

Sorry, but Raging Bull is a great "Rocky" story, but that's where it ends. His career is seriously over-rated, as is his status among ATGs. If not for his single win over Robinson, LaMotta would be just another champion of many in boxing history. Nothing of note.

FYI - Weigh-ins on the day of the fight didn't stop until the 80s after the Spinks fight got cancelled because of somebody missing weight. Can't remember the opponent, but the idea was they "never wanted a high profile championship fight to be cancelled like that again." So the day before got implemented to give a fighter time to make weight after he missed.
