I dont think he is either, but the problem is he marketed himself to be the villain. He developed a larger than life personality, he was boastful, conceited, arrogant and loudmouthed. He would burn money, make it rain benjamins, show off his car collection etc... Floyd got the attention of not only boxing fans but more importantly, casual fans. Peoples perception of him were mainly 1. A hardworking, successful man who they would like to be or emulate 2. Gifted boxer but could careless who he was outside of the ring and 3. Think he's a woman beating SOB who was rotten to the core. The brillaint thing is, no matter what you think of him, you pay to watch him win or you to watch him lose, no matter what, you're putting money in his pockets. The man is such a gifted boxer and businessman that he's been able to steer his career in a way that benefited him the most.

Floyd isnt a fool, he knew what he was doing when he made the pretty boy and money may persona, he knew the benefits and consequences of it too. He cashed in BIG TIME over the years, but at the same time, got a lot of hate for it. Floyd fans defend him because he's a great boxer and they say that we should only judge what he does in the ring and what he does in his personal life is his own business. I used to feel the same way but then I realized one important thing and that is, Floyd is in control of how people see him, I'm sure he has a publicist to oversee his image, and he's smart so he's fully aware of all his antics and its consequences. Because of that, a part of me believes he deserves the hate he gets, because he is fully aware of what he was doing and he knew what the results would be. I think it was ok with him because what he seems to crave the most is the attention and to stay relevant.

If Floyd behaved the way Pac does, respectful, humble and kind, I can almost guarantee that mostly everyone will be cheering for him and hoping he retires undefeated. But realistically, if you build yourself up to be the villain, do you really expect people would want to cheer for the villain?
