When i was a kid, around the same time as Tyson was untouchable I remember seeing/hearing somewhere that a cuban heavy/superheavy amateur was offered a ridiculous amount of money to fight him. Can anybody remember and shed any light on this ??? Thanks a lot.
Oliver indeed did have Mike on the floor in preparation for the Spinks fight, Greg Page dropped Mike in preparations for the Douglas fight, I saw a heavyweight called Stan Allen rock Mike once also badly in the gym to the point of Mike having to take a rest... Friday Ahunanya dropped Mike heavily in preparation for the fight with Clifford Ettiene.. Mike said after the fight in a post fight interview , Thanks to all those who helped me get ready for Ettiene Tyrone Boone , Stacey Mckinley and Friday .. but couldn't pronounce the surname (Ahunanya) so he just called him a very popular African heavyweight that everyone in Las Vegas knows .. called Friday.. Mike and all great fighters through history were dropped in sparring.. As for the other question.. Was Oliver ever dropped by Mike .. NO. But i have seen first hand Olivers face after sparring back then.. He sure was a train wreck of a mess.. Oliver was indeed undroppable... But not unbruisable..Ollies old Manager Elijah Thomas told me Oliver and Mike fought hard and partied hard, They were very respectful of one another.. When McCall lost by decision to Douglas Mike poked so much fun at McCall after the fight in the dressing room .. McCall later stated in the press that Douglas is the type of guy who would probably give Tyson problems if they ever meet.. Wasn't he so right.......... God bless. God bless.
RJJ didn't spar to practise his weaknesses, I think he just practised his strengths and new things of his own. I don't think anyway.
A ham and Egger is a very basic standard boxer.. It is in reference to Eggs and Ham being a very basic meal.. Nothing fancy and nothing spectacular.. Wlad would be a filet Mignon so to speak..LOL Ham and Eggs is just a dull standard meal.. Ollie is actually a bit more than a standard fighter, so was Greg Page actually.. Respect is in need here..
Wow, yeah! That is pretty ironic...tempting fate, more like. Perhaps an interesting question to ask is - how many guys have never hit the deck in training? McCall being an obvious but rare candidate.
The answer is in the same post Damon.. Friday Ahunanya has never been on the floor in an entire career sparring and fighting... His loss to Lance Whittacker was due to Friday geting a thumb poked in his eye.. he was winning by a mile when he dropped to a knee and had to see the physician.. Never ever dropped in all the time i have known him.. I have worked with him since he came to the United States.. He and his Nigerian friends all contest to that..
I was unaware that McCall knocked Mike down before the Spinks fight but I'm not too shocked when considering the fact that many contend that McCall held his own with Tyson throughout their sparring sessions. The page knockdown was well documented and the HBO broadcast actually shows it in between rounds of the Tyson/Douglas fight. Thanks for the info big cat! :good
The only Broads that KD Tyson were Desiree Washington and Robin Givens. (I'll get my coat now........)
