How old he is, 32, 33? McCloskey has peaked as a fighter, as for having one last crack at world title we've already been shown the limits of the guy's ambition the last time he had a world title fight....

He's just turned 32. So he should retire despite the fact there's a world title there for him? Will you shut up you clown.

Haven't seen it myself, and I haven't come across anyone here who's seen it but from what I've heard Mendez got done over in Mexico. Of course you can't be sure until you've seen it, I mean, we have seen people overreact when the scorecards are too wide, so I'm not sure whether that's the case or Argenis genuinely was screwed.

Supposedly an excellent fight though, the kind you'd think their styles would've lead to. Apparently one would get hurt but there'd be a complete momentum shift almost instantly and they'd come roaring straight back. It's bound to not live up to expectations now, but it sounds pretty good, hopefully it surfaces soon.

And, not that I intend on hijacking the thread, but Milan Melindo was excellent against Rosas this weekend. As was Cristian Mijares, who had a fight at extremely short notice for some reason at super-bantam against a Columbian with a record of 19-9(name escapes me as of right now).:yikes

It has to be Maidana by knockout.

I did feel Dudey just edged it out against Prescott (114-113, as tight as it gets) but he was getting severely tagged early on as his reflex-based defense failed to bail him out...and he was very lucky to survive the 12th, even though I gave him the round for having done the better bulk of work in 2 minutes and change before getting hurt.

MRM is leagues above Prescott as both a boxer and a puncher.

It's hard to envision McCloskey surviving halfway.

Yeah j, that Mijares date popped up out of nowhere! :yikes

I literally had no idea until the night of, and by then there were too many other commitments to try and seek out a way to watch it.

He looked in top form, then?

I've heard it was a very good fight. It really does need to be uploaded soon, though it seems every other fight that happened over the weekend has been uploaded except for this one. I'm irking to watch it.

Luis Cruz looked pretty good in his fight on Saturday too. It's possible he might fight Broner for Ricky Burn's title as well, and I really hope that fight comes off.

So how do rate McCloskey's chances against Maidana then? Convince me that he has more than a 10% chance of pulling out a decision because he isn't going to K.O. Maidana.

Very slim. About 10% I would say.

My point is that you're a ****ing idiot for suggesting he shouldn't go for it because he's the underdog.

Listen, Maidana has the power & ability to put a career-ending beatdown on McCloskey. The guy is pure seek & destroy, he almost had Khan, he broke Ortiz mentally but he can be outboxed as Morales showed but Paul ain't no Morales. Of current 140lb belt holders, stylistically I think he best matches up with Bradley, the only issue is can he match Desert Duck's workrate?

If McCloskey employs the same "can't touch this" MC hammer tactics he used against Khan I can see it go past 6 rounds.

Maidana might turn up out of shape like he's done to a number of his low key fights...but he'll still make McCloskey his *****.

No way will McCloskey dare to step into the ring with Maidana after this fight. I doubt he'd even rematch Prescott.

I don't think he can beat any of the top guys and I disagree. Out of all the top guys, Maidana suits McCloskey the best. Maidana is slow and his punches are by and large telegraphed. There will be moments where McCloskey will be able to counter him, but he'll still be outworked and Maidana will hurt him too. If there is any guy he can miraculously beat, it would be Maidana imo.

Well, obviously it's difficult to gauge considering the level of opposition, but he looked as good as you could've expected him to I suppose.

It was kind of similar to the Rueda fight in a way, where it looked like the other guy was having his moments but wasn't in reality, as Mijares pretty much blocked and smothered most of the stuff that came his way, before planting his feet and letting fly with a few combinations of his own that were much more accurate.

The KD he scored in the third was beautiful, he allowed Perez to throw at will, all the while throwing uppercuts in between Perez's shots, he made him back off a bit, and when Perez tried to come storming back in BOOM(!), right uppercut, almost a check-right uppercut, and Perez fell sideways.

He looked a little bit looser, more fluid if you will, though obviously a judgement can't really be made yet until he fights better guys, he's looking for an Arce return apparently.

Haven't seen much of Cruz to be honest, not very clued up on him to the extent of Mendez, Perez, etc. You think he could beat Broner at this stage?

Never been quite sold on mcloskey, he's looked good in the past against poor opposition, but against Prescott I felt like I was watching a slow malignaggi, very awkward and negative, he's got a good chin but didn't like the fact that everytime he got walloped he just stood still and stared at Prescott??? I reckon maidana would stop mmcloskey late if that fight happens.
