Cruz is one of my favourite prospects. Doesn't particularly excell in terms of speed or power, but he's got solid fundamental skills and is a very good technician. He throws a very nice uppercut, and his counter left hook is superbly timed and very accurate aswell. He had a close fight with Martin Honorio, which left doubts in the minds of some in regards to whether he would be a championship calibre fighter, but I tend to think of Honorio as a guy who is at least on the fringes of world level (courtesy of a close loss to Argenis Mendez, and terrific wins over undefeated fighters in Luevano and Molina), which suggests to me that a close but clear win (IMO) is actually a very good result. Against Broner, I'm not sure how the styles would mesh. On one had, I could envisage Broner's speed being an issue to Cruz, and if Broner threw fast punches at high volume that Luis couldn't counter, then he'd have problems. Then again, Broner isn't a high volume fighter, and a smart operator could break him down, though I feel Cruz would have to be more aggresive that usual if he wanted to do that. If they fought, I'd go with my gut and favour Cruz, but I wouldn't be surprised if Broner won, even if he is fairly shite.
:good He isn't called The Artisan for no reason. He might just be good enough technically to bluff his way to being world class without the usual requisite talent.
If the fight does get signed, Maidana better not be so stupid as to agree to fight in McCloskey's backyard or the result will be fixed. Eddie is after Fwank's mantle & all that goes with it :deal Anyway, Maidana is GBP, McCloskey/Hearn are small players on the world stage and after McCloskey stunk the joint out with his last title 'challenge' HBO will not be too keen on having him back on...
I agree. His technical ability can't mask his athletic and tactical flaws for long. A good, experienced fighter will be his downfall IMO :good
Unlike Prescott, Maidana's good enough to not let it go to the cards. Even if it does, he's better enough to make a clearer case for winning than Prescott who came about as close as you can short of a draw.
Unfortunately for McCloskey maidanna takes his punching power with him till the bell rings in the 12th. I see Maidanna stopping him in the 8th 0r 9th. I will be cheering on the paddy thoe...........
agree here with this. Maidan the 60/40 favourite but McC could improve and he has heart which he would certainly need. I think Maidana would win around round 6 or 7 but if he doesent finish it I think McC could give him problems in rounds 8-12.
Its all about levels and i think Maidana maybe one step to far for McCloskey. Maidana wont run out of puff like prescott did thats for sure.
I think Maidana would win big and early. McCloskey took too long to get going against Prescott, Maidana would sense it and go straight at him from the word go. I like McCloskey but think he'd do well to last beyond three rounds here.
