thought mcdonnell did well tonight. it looked like hall was just too tough and relentless coming forward, but mcdonnell persevered and for me proved he's more than just a euro level fighter.

logic would state that the faster man with more reach and less power would be best suited to staying on the outside, but hall was walking through jamie's punches in the early rounds and catching him with big shots. mcdonnell combatted this by mixing it up and started throwing body shots and upper cuts. also his head movement and footwork on the inside confused hall making him miss wildly which tired him out.

mcdonnell has good speed, decent power and ok skill, which will take him so far, but what i think makes him have that extra something to give him a chance at world level is his willingness to mix it up and fight or the full 12 rounds.

He needs to defend his Euro title, then carefully pick a world ranked 10-20 guy and see where he really is in the greater scheme of things at bantam.

    :thumbsup

At present, it's a tall order for him to beat Donaire, Mares or Moreno (in descending quality of major world champions).

Even the IBO belt could be too much to ask, despite Darchinyan appearing a shell of his old killer self earlier today.

A good chin and some skill will only get you so far if you can't command a bit of respect with your fists at world level. I do see any of the above laughing off all of Jamie's best.

He needs to wait until Nonito Donaire vacates before stepping up to world level. If he waits it will present him with far more opportunities to win a title, and far easer fights.

Mind you I cant ever see him winning a title either.

The champs are all solid, would be a massive ask for him IMO

Oh wait - I forgot Moreno is the WBA Super Champion.

    The regular champ is Kameda.

Call me crazy, but McDonnell could take that one! :bbb

God, that's sad that two of the three slices of WBA pie (maybe all three) make the IBO look like the more difficult and prestigious to attain in comparison. :-(

    The WBA! Ali's title!

He showed he is potentially a world level fighter, but the Bantam champs are pretty serious fighters.

WBA is so prestigous though. I like their attitude, everyone is a champion as long as they can make some money

so do a few people. did i say even once i think he will definatly go on to win a world title?. i said he has potential to do it. he showed in that fight he is a level above european standard. if someone like burns can win a title i dont see any difference in mcdonnells chances. dont get me wrong donaire or mares would beat him inside 6 rounds..... but if he can face a lesser guy he has a chance.
