Saw them both up close and personal, so I am either biased by proximity or very informed. Chavez was on another level. He dices and possibly stops Buddy, much as I love him.
He put it all together at least one night against Simon Brown. One of the great boxing performances against a dangerous fighter.
Maybe/probably. My line of thinking is/was that Buddy isn't a big welter (probably a natural 140 really) so the size difference won't be as much as against a SRL or similar. I also think Chavez is a level above Buddy as good as he is. I may have been a bit hasty tho in not factoring in the weight and time period that's for sure. The worry i guess is that Chavez was comfortably on the downslide by the time he fought Whitaker. I may well be on the wrong side of the coin now you've prompted me. Chavez was certainly better at 130-135 than elsewhere both weight wise and peak wise. How do you see it mate? You've got me leaning toward McGirt. Nice fighter. I will say tho Chavez (as a fighter, not a welter) has become a bit underrated on the whole in here lately imo.
I never saw Chavez as an effective Welterweight. I think McGirt wins a decision. At the lower weights I lean back towards Julio.
