Nobody on earth can be half Mexican unless your mom somehow delivered half your body on Mexican soil and the other half on some other country. You are either a Mexican (citizen) or you are not. To claim Mexican heritage does not make you Mexican. Duran never has, and never will be a Mexican fighter.

Juan Manuel Marquez wins this poll? I guess the majority of people that voted have not seen enough of Chavez and Miguel Canto. Both these fighters deserve consideration as Mexico's best for differing reasons. Chavez is and will continue to be the prototypical Mexican Fighter because of style and talent: constant pressure, agressor, strong body work, gutsy, tough chin. Canto on the other hand is the exact opposite defensive boxing, counterpunching, and precision punching.

Salvador Sanchez is among the greatest however his career was cut short. Afew more fight and he very well could have been number one.

    The way I see it:

    1. Chavez
    2. Canto/Salvador Sanchez tied
    4. Humberto Gonzalez
    5. Zarate
    6. Erik Morales
    7. Ruben Olivares
    8. Vicente Saldivar
    9. Juan Manuel Marquez
    10. Gilberto Roman/Marco Antonio Barrera tied

I think he had the consistent depth of Chavez, in fact better. But obviously he didnt stay unbeaten for as long and his consistency fails there.

Whilst he doesnt have a single name as good as Gomez on there..he has a ton that arent heaps far behind and if you are marking someone on depth you have to give him a shout. Also its not just the people he beat but how he beat them that scores well for Ruben.

    Salvatore Burruni
    Alan Rudkin
    Chucho Castillo x 2
    Kid Pasqualito
    Efren Torres
    Jose Medal
    Lionel Rose
    Bobby Chacon x 2
Jose Luis Ramirez (only man to stop him)

Plus a whole heap of other contenders who are probaly not worth mentioning if you dont know a little about them. A lot of them were good figthers that Ruben destroyed.

Interestingly I actually dont have Olivares as my greatest mexican boxer ever, even though he is without a doubt my favorite.

Julio Cesar Chavez over Salvador Sanchez. however had Sanchez not died in that car crash it probbly would have been him. Juan Manuel Marquez is in poistion to pass them both up and become the #1 guy.

By that Im guessing you mean that JMM is the most talented in a H2H sense.

Do you see Marquez beating Salvador or Salvidar in a H2H match cuchlain?

I dont think Im ready to make that call yet...not sure Ill ever be. They are two very very good fighters, with boxing talent coming out their ears.

The obvious answer is JCC. However, MAB is more my time in boxing and I saw most of his fights. So for me, he is my favorite mexican boxer.

    Yes, in overall skill terms.

    Couldn't make that call either.
