I had Povetkin beating Hunter by a round but thought a draw was fare. Good fight. Young lion against an old great on his way out.
What, have you followed his career at all? After the Usyk loss, he took a year off an in 2018 returned at heavyweight. He went 4-0 that year with the highlight being his upset win over Bakole, whom he stopped in the 10th. In 2019 he easily beat Fabio Maldonado and Sergey Kuzmin in high profile fights. People were paying him attention and he was on a roll. It was the peak of his career. This was followed with the biggest fight of his career vs Povetkin on the massive Ruiz-Joshua II card in Saudi Arabia. People were genuinely talking about his chances at the world level and how he was one of the top Americans with promise. It´s now that Hunter´s career took a turn for the worse. He has stayed relatively inactive since and looked like doo doo.
I hope he gets a second go around. I liked his dad, and I liked him. He was talking about going Bridger for awhile, and it might be a good idea.
Didn't he leave Hearn after Povetkin and sign with some newer promotion (promoting YouTube guys?!). I could be wrong, but then his career has slowly drown since.
Yup, something like that happened. He has had promotional issues for years now. Kinda blows my mind that he would leave Hearn after the run he had.
Career over for Hunter. He really made an absolute mess of a good momentum he had. Lost out on some big money fights even though I understand he made a lot for fighting a couple of bums.
