I'm in the minority on this, but I think he was a classic example of a guy changing his style to try and suit TV. The Goosens were not a major player by any means and Nunn was their first major success. Nunn hardly had a Rocky Balboa style and was a cutie pie in his early bouts.

A very difficult guy to match up with and beat back then. But I always thought the Goosens tried or wanted him to be a more fan friendly/exciting fighter once he got to the top. And that just wasn't what he did best, but the paydays were bigger.

The Roldan and Barkley bouts showed this in spades and it was a far cry from the early versions of Nunn who was almost impossible to hit. All of a sudden, we have a guy going toe to toe with the brawlers. He didn't have to and choose to slug with these guys. He could've picked and pecked and done his Pernell Whitaker job of hitting and not getting hit. And gone on to easy decision wins.

I think a different management team would not have tried to impress the network executives and just had their guy win his fights with his style. Just be a Sven Ottke type guy that wins and not try to be Wilfredo Gomez in there.
